Big Brother: My Opinion
Most of you know what Big Brother is; a bunch of people stuffed in a house together for however many weeks. It first came to channel 4 on the 18th July 2000, and 7 years later the viewings are dropping, and I wonder why the show is still running.
I watched it once, during a 3 day road trip to Oxford, where one night my mum wanted to watch it in our small room, by chance it was a celebrity one, the day before the papers came out with all the “Jade is a racist” stuff, but that doesn’t matter, what mattered was how pointless it was.
Before writing this blog, I researched the show, and watched an episode, the sooner it gets cancelled the better. Did you know how many BB type shows are based on it? I’ll tell you:
-Original BB
-BB: On the Couch
-BB’s Little Brother
-BB’s Little Breakfast
-BB’s Big Brain
-Diary Room Uncut
-Nominations Uncut
-BB’s Big Mouth
7 shows plus the actual one? Bit far, don’t you think?
Recently BB has been criticised, not only for the racist abuse [I’m not saying any more on this subject, and feel I have a relevant enough reason why the viewings are dropping without needing to use this], but by the fans. Fans are losing interest after seeing the same thing over and over again, the housemates are different people, but has anyone else noticed how similar they are?
I guess it the show was real I wouldn’t mind. Have any of you seen the Truman Show? It stars Jim Carey as a man, whose whole life has been a reality TV show, but he doesn’t realise it, hence all of his reactions, if this was true, would be real. But with Big Brother, they all know they’re on TV, and they want to win, hence will usually act how they think people want them to act. Also, the whole setting of it; the recent BB had all women, before the let loose one guy, trying to cause fights. I was hoping something serious happened! To the extent that no one would ever want to watch BB again!
A few years ago, I did a project on BB at school, and we spent a lot of time of its website, receiving such announcements, classed as important, such as “Ingrid has left her bed, to go to the bathroom”. Since when was this important?
Sadly, I’ll have to shut up. Currently, it has reached the 8th series [excluding celebrity] and is booked to reach 11th at least, but at the rate it’s plummeting I’d say it was due to be removed. Except it won’t; Channel 4 are making £180 million, and with the shows they wish to produce, they need the money.
Contained within this blog are personal opinions, you may agree, you may disagree, and I’m open to accept any arguments against this blog, as long as it’s nothing along the lines of “BB ROCKS, YOU SUCK!”, which is what I received when I posted this blog on a school site, although I doubt anyone here is stupid enough to retort with that sort of comment.
Thanks For Reading.x

I think all reality shows suck and should be cancled. There is NO POINT TO ANY OF THEM.

BB has its good and bad points I think. Like last year it had Pete and he had his problem (I can't spell it so I won't even attempt) and gave a lot of notice to it. Same with Glyn, it really helped my school because people finally realised that it isn't un-cool to speak welsh at all.
Then there's the racist thing and that has to good and bad points. The bad point being some stupid woman who's famous for no reason was showing us her tru colours and then trying to say sorry. It's showing that racism is still a porblem and how stupid it is to be racist.
But mainly, BB is pointless and it's a chance for some people to be on TV , try and fail to be famous and to try and win money. There is no honesty in the show really.

I just watched it when that Pete was on it, the one with tourettes. I was 12 and it was hilarious and he was hot. But even then i realised that his presence was all down to the fact that he was entertaining in his problem, and i felt a little uncomfortable that they were using it as a freak show, and i still viewed the unoriginality of it with a sort of contempt.
You couldn't pay me to watch it now to be honest. It's out-stayed it's welcome far too long. It's just another TV cash cow.

I think the only bit I'd watch if I had to would be the tasks.
I used to watch it but I just don't anymore, it's boring.
I mean, after you've seen a season or two it's just the same thing again and again.
I didn't even watch one second of the last one.

I completely agree with you there. Australian BB, well, its a load of crap, all or most of the housemates are bogans, witht he same bleached blonde hair and just have the same antics and act the same.
This year on BB, i decided to try me best to not watch any BB at all. I think all together i only saw about 8 seconds of it, and that alone was from switching from television shows to other channels.
I just think that its lost its originality. I do think that it would have been good if it ran only once or twice every 10 years, but with the rate that it is going now, there is no originality left.

I don't see why they call it reality tv when it's not.
but I do admit to watching it :shifty:
