Billy Joel

WARNING: BAD SPELLER, PLEASE DO NOT COMMENT ON POOR SPELLING

Why yes, this is another one of Blarg!'s band reviews form the 70's. Thank you for asking. I'd write one about Avenged Sevenfold or Green Day, but I seriously doubt you don't like them/have no idea who they are.

Age is a cruel thing, it takes away your hair and gives you wrinkles!

William Joseph Martin (Billy Joel) was born on May 9, 1949 in The Bronx, New York, raised in Hicksville New York. At a young age, his mother forced him to take piano lessons and his father was a highly talented classical pianist. As he grew older he began to like playing the piano, and perfered music over sports. He attended Hicksville High School and was sopposed to graduate in 1967, but was one english credit short becuase he overspelt the day of an importiant exam due to his latenight music life. After this he decided to drop out of high school, so he could continue on with his musical career rather then go to summer school. In 1992, the English credit requirement was waived by the Hicksville School Board and he received his diploma at Hicksville High's graduation ceremony 25 years after he left the school.

In 1964, when Billy Joel was 14, hefounded a music group called The Echoes. They specalised in covering Brittish Invasion songs such as The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, The Who, ect. The following year, The Echoes started recording and playing numerous late night shows. They also changed their name to The Emeralds, and then to The Lost Souls. The singles they recorded and put on the market failed miserably so eventually Joel broke off from them and started playing solo in 1970.

Starting then Billy Joel released a total of 12 studio albums (Cold Spring Harbor (1971), Piano Man (1973), Streetlife Serenade (1974), Turnstiles (1976), The Stranger (1977), 52nd Street (1978 ), Glass Houses (1980), The Nylon Curtain (1982), An Innocent Man (1983), The Bridge (1986), Storm Front (1989) and The River Of Dreams (1993)) along with various live albums and greates hits collections. Sadly, Joel retired his songwriting career in 1993 after The River Of Dreams was recorded and released. Since then he has been on tour and comming out with random singles.

I don't really think anyone on GSB would care too much for his music. Half of his main melodys are based on guitar like any other rock song, but the other half is based on piano. Its not bad, its different. I think the following songs are really freakin great:

Piano Man

Scenes From An Italian Restaruant

Only The Good Die Young

Uptown Girl / Big Shot

It's Still Rock And Roll To Me

Goodnight Saigon

We Didn't Start The Fire

The River Of Dreams

If you acually read this entire blog and watched the viedos, I congradulate you. If not, SCROLL BACK UP AND READ THE DAM THING BEFORE YOU COMMENT! Thank you and have a nice day!
