out of step
ok... so i really wanna talk about this.
anyone who knows me should know that one of the most important things to me is sincerity and honesty. on all aspects of my life this is something i need to make me feel safe and to make me feel like i have something to trust and something to rely on.
i think this is importand to a lot of ppl who are into punk and that's why bands who get famous get such shit on their necks. green day must be my all time favorite band, they will always hold a special meaning to me and always have the place in my heart, but i will never consider them pure. i can't... they're just too famous and too many people know them. it doesn't lessen their importance to me in any way, but tbh, it does bother me at times. there are just too many morons and wannabes listening to them.
bands like minor threat and propagandhi represent to me the purest pure. the most honest, sincere meaningful music i've ever heard, the real punk music. i don't care when ppl say liek "ohh green day is not punk, sex pistols were punk". these people don't know a thing, they simply repeat what they hear. sex pistols were corporate whores as much as green day is. if you want something non-commercial listen to fugazi for god's sake, not sex pistols. i'm not saying pistols were bad, i'm just saying they were... well, they wanted to be loud and heard but did they really have anything meaningful to say... i mean really? more than anarchy? it was very ground breaking but it wasn't sincere, not really.
it doesn't matter that bands like ramones and pistols were original. there are bands that came after them that i think are more punk that the old ones. cause when i hear "punk" i hear "sincerity" and when is listen to propagandhi or minor threat i hear people who stand for what they believe in and wanna make a point. these people don't or never have cared about money, they are in it because they care about what they have to say. hell, these people i look up to.
so when i hear people say "rockstar", it makes me sick. i just know these people don't know a thing about punk... cause when it comes to punk, it's NEVER a rockstar, it's always a musician. rocstar is someone who's... well, axl rose. o.O arrogant bastards, who wanna be on covers of the magazines, but they have nothing that would ever make me look up to them.
once more i must say i love minor threat. it's musically shit, but if you have respect for simple, honest people listen to them. it's all there.. easy to listen to and understand, but it has a message. ian mackaye is a true musician and a wise man. i have a lot of respect for him. amen.
oh anddddd... these are the bands i know i can always keep to myself. they will never be on billboards on converse ads for normal people to see. and that really means to me something.

I agree with you, I'll be honest, it is annoying sometimes. But in the end, what it all comes down to is the /music/ and whether you like it or not.
If you like what Green Day is putting out there, corporate hor3s or not, good for you, because it's what you like. If you what Minor Threat's music, and them being whatever they are and stand for, then great. :] It's all that matters in the end, why complicate things with all this musical politics? :]

look, pal... those are just the mainstream ones. and yes, it does annoy me that you don't care about punk values cause that's what makes it punk.
sum41 will never be punk.
maybe you didn't rly understand what i was saying here.

Well first things first, music will always be changing it's style. Today, punk can be defined as Green Day, Sum 41, Blink-182, The Offspring and bands with that kinda sound. You know what I mean. Punk back in the 70's and 80's can be defined as The Sex Pistols, The Ramones, and bands with that kinda sound. Its just the changing times. No one can stop it, but then again, does everyone want to?
Persionally, about the whole "what is and what isnt punk", I could really care less. I love the music, but (I'm gonna be hated by some for saying this) I really don't like the true spirit, style and meaning of punk. I soppose I might be as passionate about it as you are if I liked punk for anything more then the music.

aww thank you :] i am passionate. too much sometimes.

really passionate blog actually. i see wherre you come from, and I agree to what you say. I just like to add one more thing: times have changed and what used to be punk in the past seems boring nowadays but in those days it was totally insane and new and stuff. idk if that made sense but ya, good blog ^^
