Twilight Movie - What the hell were they thinking?
I know. I know. By now, everyone's sick and tired of hearing about Twilight and its movie. Believe me, I'm right there with you. I'd rather be hearing about the Holiday Season or something else for that matter too. But, bare with me for just another five minutes about this subject.
I remember picking up the book Twilight at my eighth grade book sale in the school's library. I read the back and immediately decided to buy it for its cheap price of $8.99. I remember holding it in my arms for the rest of the period, not even opening it to read it's contents. Several times, I jumped back and forth between buying it and not buying it, but in the end, I bought it and brought it home that day and put it on my shelf, never to be touched.
About a month later, summer vacation rolled around and I grew bored. So, I spotted the book on the shelf and decided to give it a try. I read the first chapter, wasn't impressed and didn't know if I should drop it or not. Then decided to try to keep reading it about a few days later. By the third chapter, I was hooked. I read through the rest of the 400 + page book in the next 3 days.
I first thought the book was brilliant! It was finally a fantasy book that I could read. As a reader, I'm very realistic. I have to read something that is believable or actually did happen. I can't stand books that have to do with goblins and demons and witchcraft or wizardry. Just a few years before reading Twilight, I struggled through the first three Harry Potter books and finally decided to drop the fourth when I reached the hundredth page. The same thing happened with The Hobbit just a few months before I bought Twilight, except, I got to page 73 and dropped it. I apologize fantasy readers, it's not my style of reading.
Back to Twilight, I absolutely love the book, I reread it again and again that summer. I also read New Moon several times too. I love them both. I encouraged all my friends to read it too. Most did. The book is written in a human point of view, not a wizard's or goblin's. I think this is what made it so much more easier for me to read, I could actually relate to half of what the character was describing to me. I love the romance in it too, which is heavy, might I add. If you haven't yet read Twilight and are thinking of doing so, be prepared to cry and shout your heart out, it's that dramatic.
New Moon was different from Twilight. Not giving anything away here for those of you who have yet to read it, it's much different. Not as romantic, not as dramatic, okay it's a little dramatic, but not as bad as Twilight. New Moon also brings the light closer to another character.
Finally, now that those descriptions are done, I went online and did some homework about the book. I found the author's website and her future plans for the series, which did include a third book, Eclipse. I planned to read it and I did. I also found that she was planning on having a movie adaption of the book, at that time to be presented by Paramount, but eventually presented by Summit Entertainment. I was stoked, just like any other Twilight fan. I was excited, and hopeful that they wouldn't screw the book up, like so many other book to film books, like Harry Potter.
A year passed, I read Eclipse and loved it. Another year passed, life went on and I read Breaking Dawn and loved it. But, the movie was finished and set to be released the year of Breaking Dawn's release, 2008, our current year. On 21 November 2008, Twilight the Movie was released. Tickets to movie theater showings were sold out everywhere. Hopefully, a good sign, I told myself, but yet again, if your favorite book was now a movie, wouldn't you expect there to be sold out showings of it?
It was a Monday that I saw Twilight for the first time in theaters. I went with my sister, who did read the books herself. We loved it. As awkward as some parts are, we loved it. For a film adaption of a book, it was pretty darn well done. But, as we exited the theater, we thought to ourselves, wait a minute, that was completely different from the book. So much should have been done even further. An additional scene here or there wouldn't have killed the movie, especially if it was in the book and was important to the book.
Looking back at the movie now, I think to myself, yeah, it's okay. There's a lot that should have been included that wasn't. More specifically, Alice and Bella's friendship, which wasn't portrayed the way the book defines it. Also, the biology human blood typing scene was very important to the plot. And lastly, Edward and Bella's relationship rocketed from an awkward one to an "I don't want to live without you" relationship. Where was the build up?
I do plan on seeing it again in theaters, kind of as a second approach, as it took me more than one read of the book to fully understand it. Now, though, I'm rereading New Moon as it was announced just one day after the movie Twilight came out that there would be a sequel based on New Moon.
Hopefully with New Moon's film adaption, they'll hit it on the head with the hammer and get it right! There are so many important scenes that should never be overlooked when the writer's are writing the script!
That's all I have to say, it's an opinion, please, please don't bash it! State your own!

One more week until it comes out here.
My friend has it on her iPod and my other friend saw the first preview of it last night at the cinemas. They both said it was pretty good, so I'm looking forward to seeing it.

I tooooooooooootally agree with the Bella/Edward relationship. It just kinda came right out of nowhere. I found that really annoying. And I found the girl playing Bella wasn't really that great. :/
I think they did the baseball scene really well, though.

The movie hasn't come out here yet, but I found a few sneaky copies online and watched them.
I had pretty low expectations too, but it was alot better than I thought.
I thought Edward was played nicely, though his voice should've been more velvety and Bella needed to be.. warmer? It did feel heaps rushed, too.
Worst part: The guy who played Carlisle, in my opinion, was a sh*tty actor.

I didn't care too much for the movie... I mean, it was nice. But Edward sort of looked like a druggy and Bella was all twitchy (not how I imagined them when I read the books).... and it was weird.
Also I didn't feel like you connected to Bella very much in the movie like you do in the book.... ha ha. Yeah.
On the other hand, they had some nice scenery shots. XD

I've read the book series 8 times now
and I went into the movie with low expectations for it
that way I wouldn't be as disappointed
I thought they followed the plot well and the acting was great
yeah there could've been some more scenes
but it was already 2 hoursish long
they probably didn't want to make it longer

I HAVE NOT READ THE BOOKS BUT I DID SEE THE MOVIE AND IT WAS HILARIOUS I LOL'D THE ENTIRE TIME
half the movie was just like intense staring omg hilarious
also that edward kid was a creep like there is nothing ~romantic about sneaking into your room and watching you sleep dnw ever
also whoever played jasper was flippin gorgeous and that is my opinion on the matter
Freaky Styley, December 3rd, 2008 at 03:05:43am
I thought they took WAYY too much out of the movie.
"Edward and Bella's relationship rocketed from an awkward one to an "I don't want to live without you" relationship. Where was the build up?"
I completely agree.
I always heard about the books and never wanted to read them because I always got annoyed with the ~asians reading them years ago. but my sister picked it up this summer and got me hooked. I'm a Jacob fan myself, and fell in love with his character right away.
for the movie, I had really low expectations, so I loved the movie. but they could've done so much more. I guess that's why it got 2 and half stars out of 5.

My sister read all 4 books in like a week lol, she loves them. I don't think she's seen the movie yet though..
