Modern Technology
Lately, I have been thinking about the world... And how advanced we have become in the last twenty years or so.
And frankly, I think we would have been better off if we didn't ever invent some things. Like;
The Internet: Sure, I'm on it right now, and it helps with networking and contacting people, but it also can cause health problems. Like obesity. Worse yet, Child obesity.
Television: Frankly, I could go without it. All it does is suck people out of reality and place them in this world that nothing can ever go wrong, and if you Do something wrong, there is an undo button and everything is just peachy again. No repercussions, No punishment.
Medications: Unneeded medications that is. I'm not saying that every pill is a bad thing. Just the ones that are made and prescribed without actual thinking on the doctors part. One doctor told me I should be on Ritalin for A.D.D. So I switched doctors, and they said I had schizophrenic paranoia.
And I'm not either, so I stopped going to them. I say if you aren't a smart enough doctor to actually figure out whats the matter with your patient, you should not be practicing.
Video Games: Now, I cant say anything first hand, because I've never played one. but I've seen people that do, like, constantly. Take my sister in law's younger brother for example, hes 19 now. I know for a fact that hes been playing them since he was 10, before that, I have no idea. But when I would talk to him about them... He would tell me that he has been playing games like, “Left For Dead”, “Halo”, “Call Of Duty” and those sorts, for at least 5 years. And he has been awake for 4 days straight playing them. He was usually on them for about 14 hours a day. When he was living with us, I would sit with him while he was playing them. Fall asleep on him when they got boring to watch. lol. Only to get woken up a few minutes later with him in a total rage and screaming at the screen because someone killed him in the game. Now, honestly, I don't find that sort of instant rage healthy. But when he is not playing the games, he was the sweetest guy! So I blame his anger issues on those said games. Now, there is nothing I could have done about it, he was an adult, and not my responsibility.
Cars and Trucks: They are wonderful for traveling. But honestly, they are rolling killers in my book. With the amount of accidents, hit and runs, and the amount of pollutions they relieve into the air... It's amazing to me that more people don't understand what we are doing to the planet and actually try and car pool more or do something about it. I mean, I would walk more places, or ride a bike, but there are so many roads now a days that are not bike friendly, or drivers that have no idea how to drive about town with bikes on the road.
That last one would start another whole rant about how people drive. its Horrid!!
But there are more that I did not list.
But I think there are TOO many to list.
Thank you for reading, sorry for it being sort of short. If you disagree with me, or have an opinion of your own, please, feel free to post your comments ^^ I will try to reply to them all. If I do not, PM me or something.
I'm so glad some of you like my blogs.

i don't what i've been arguing because i agree with you. so obviously we're both completely right and you're grounded.

I didn't mean on the whole "fake", "real" kind of thing, because I don't understand that myself. I mean communicating via internet is chalk and cheese compared to reality and society. Internet personalities are always altered that little bit, because we feel we can express ourselfs to a new extent as no one can see us. However, when a person is staring you blank in the face in reality, it;s very, very difficult to act as you would via net.
It's completley great for your nephew to be able to have something like th einternet, and for other people who can't socialis or lack socialising skills needed in reality, but for those who have the skills and lose them because they spend so much time on the .net, it's completley different.
I give you no sympathy, becasue you ground me without reason.
Dr.Hymen, January 4th, 2009 at 04:54:45am
"they go f*ckin' nuts" and "say things they never would."
people don't need the internet just for that. they do these things in real life. true, there are some fakes on the internet looking for drama, but the whole internet isn't like that. the internet is just like "real life," there will be honest people and there will be dishonest people. assuming that you're talking to the honest people, it is very encouraging for communication.
faster reflexes won't help you when you become nocturnal.
well, obviously they wouldn't. but they can help you even if the change isn't so noticeable. i, for one, noticed that my reflexes were faster after i first got acquainted with video games about a year ago. even my brothers noticed.
anyways, onto another point, the internet also gives a certain feel of acceptance for some people, such as my nephew. he can't hang out with children his age because of a heart defect and sickness. the risk of him getting hurt is far too great at this time, so he does find amusement in the internet, giving him a feel of friendship with some people.
this whole reply probably looks so stupid, but let's blame the fact that i just got up and the coffee machine isn't working. you can all give me sympathy now.

Referring to what Andie said:
and it is wonderful because it does encourage communication.
On how many levels though? Not a lot. Lee Evans once said that when people go onto socialising networks, in his example, face book "they go f*ckin' nuts" and "say things they never would." The way I see it is, for a lot of people, the internet gives a false sense of communicaton skills. No one can see you on the internet, but they can in public and thus, you become more self concious. What good are your typing skills when you're face to face with someone?
Of course the internet, as stated by Demolition Lover "is a lifesaver with homework". It's an amazing tool for research and something we should be greatful for.
Again, obesity levels have rocketed since people have become more aware of the internet. Games are particularly addictive and I'm guilty of obsessing over them. I'm one of the guilty ones who locks myself in a room all day playing Runescape. But like Andie said, and like I stated in a previous Blog of mine, it's partially due to parents not noticing.
About what Andie said about video games making reflexes faster and more alert - faster reflexes won't help you when you become nocturnal. I'm proof of that.
Nice blog, Nina. See you on msn. ;]

Personally, I think the internet is a valuable tool for research using reputable sources and for social interaction, but the problem lies with the amount of time people spend on it.
Cars? Well they are of little consequence tbh, it's the munters behind the wheel that are dangerous. But yes people have become too lazy to walk 500m up the road to the dairy D:
Medications? Very overprescribed, but a 15 minute consultation with a doctor isn't really enough time for them to work out exactly what's going on, and remember people can be pushy on that score too, so it's not always doctors who are the aggressors here.
Video games: burn them all, the world will be a happier place. People's personalities change too much, pleasant people could rival Hitler D:

Internet: I agree with Mindy. It's a way to connect with people, and express opinions without fear.
TV: I only watch like... three shows at most. Ever. So, yea, I could do without it.
Meds: I'm not a sicko. Maybe mentally, paranoia, that's never been diagnosed. But I don't do meds so, that part doesn't bother me.
Video Games: I'm not a gamer, but I've played a few. They're fine. But Marcus, who is usually mild mannered, although he was pretty mute when you talked to him, he freaked out about this baseball game. I got up and moved across the room cause he was being stupid.
Cars: Roads are not my friend. But I can't walk too well. Like.. .I trip over sh*t. I think we should all ride horses. DON'T EAT ME! I love animals. But, if we didn't have roads it wouldn't hurt them. :D
Lovely blog.

Ahhh I disagree with alot fo things in this blog just because they are things I enjoy xD
The internet is a lifesaver with homework and what not, television is entertaining and informative and cars and trucks are almost essential now.
As for medications, I do agree with you. I also agree with you on video games but thats because I don't really enjoy them. They're okay if you play them reguarly, just not wasting your life on them.
icegirl., January 2nd, 2009 at 07:58:45pm
i don't think you can blame the internet for obesity. it's hardly it's fault. its the persons'/parent's fault for not monitoring internet use and ignoring their body. that's completely their choice to ignore that. and it is wonderful because it does encourage communication.
also, what do you mean by "unneeded" medications? there are countless medications out in the world that are unneeded by countless people, but they're still needed by some. i think that's more of a doctor problem, rather than medication.
and again, with television, it's an invention that communicates a lot of needed information to people all around the world. without it, most of us would be completely unaware of what's going on in the world we live in. now, tv would be perfect if some journalists would be honest.
video games like the wii fit, or whatever its called, are actually healthy because they encourage exercise. also, most video games can make reflexes faster and more alert. i think it's pretty much just learning how to regulate your hobby and your life.
cars and trucks are pretty much essential for many people. most people can't walk or run to work. and what about the people who can't walk and rely on cars to let them experience the world around them? or the elderly who go for weekly rides because they like to be in touch. granted, there are some really ridiculous drivers in the world. and some completely lazy people, who are too lazy to walk to a store. and they should just walk.
these are just my opinions. nice blog. [:

The Internet: I love the internet. Without it, I wouldn't have met some amazing people, or come to know the kind of music or social structures that made me who I am. I can get my opinion and words out there without fear. I wouldn't be me without it.
Television: Now here I agree with you. Television has just gotten rediculus. Some of the stuff I see on there is garbage. With the exception of movies. [or House, I like House. XD]
Medications: I was never a sick kid, [till this year] so I've never been on medication. But I thank my lucky stars for drowsy medicine, without it I would have many a sleepless night.
Video Games: My dad and I play games like Splinter Cell, 24, LOST, Call of Duty, and Pirates, because that's the only real quality time we can get. He's always in a meeting or doing trials for some company in Texas and San Diego, I hardly get to spend time with him just the two of us. Without video games I wouldn't have the great relationship I have with him.
Cars and Trucks: They are harmful to the environment, but are nessissary. I however carpool whenever I can to cut down on emmissions.
Even if there weren't cars or video games, we'd still have idiots to ruin life for the rest of us, somehow.
I figured out something when I was 10 that has and always will stand. Every invention made my humans makes us lazier. 98% anyway.
I see what you're saying, but I can't fully agree.
Tbh I wish I had been born in the late 1700's to mid 1800's. :file:
Tyler Durden, January 2nd, 2009 at 07:48:21pm
oh man, the internet makes me think too much. honestly i love it, cause i have no friends around where i live, so internet is really important to me. but the thing that makes me think the most is, how exactly do they do it? i know it's not easy, but to me, it seems like it's impossible, but they can still do it. i could go on forever about it, really.
i could live without television for the most part. there's only a few shows i watch. and with videogames, i could go without those too. i remember a year ago i got a ps2, which isn't really mine. and i'd be on it all the time, and i'd even stay up a whole night playing. but after a while i got tired of it, and just got over that little phase.
but, i totally understand where you're going with all this.
