DON’T WANNA FALL IN LOVE
ACT ONE SCENE TEN

(Curtains open on the Apartment, which is empty for the time being. Sj enters SR and climbs up the fire escape ***Ps to all the readers: the set has changed a little and to get to the apartment or the office they have to go up a fire escape*** and enters the apartment. She hangs up her gloves and coat on the coat rack and throws her mask into a dresser drawer. Finally she hides her hat under the bed. Enter Jos SR he climbs up and knocks on door 1. J’s head snaps up)
J: Who…who is it?
(J backs away from the door.)
Jos: It’s Jos
J: Oh
(She opens the door a little)
Jos: Is Christian here?
J: Oh, no. he’s not sorry. He should be home soon.
Jos: Then may I come in?
J: Umm sure…
(J opens the door and Jos enters.)
Jos: You’re his sister right?
(J nods)
Jos: and this is your apartment?
J: Yup, its ll ours.
Jos: What about your parents?
(J sits on the bed and brushes her hair over her face)
J: They left us when I was 2
Jos: Oh, I’m so sorry, what happened?
J: They just left. I was 2 and Christy was 10. We went around to foster homes till he was 17, then we ran. We’ve lived here since. Christian says that why I’ve got so many “problems”
Jos: Like what?
J: Trust issues, abandonment issues, depression, self mutilation, the works.
Jos: Wow, that’s awful.
J: That’s life.
Jos: No, life is happy, life is positive, life is love!
J: And love is myth.
(Jos stops and stares at her)
J: What?
Jos: How can you say that?
J: I speak the truth.
Jos: So you don’t love Whatsername?
J: I care about her.
Jos: So you don’t love Christian?!
J: I care about him!
Jos: So you don’t love me?!?
J: I don’t know you! Why would I care?!?
Jos: Because maybe I love you!
(J, taken aback, presses against the wall. Jos realizes what he said and his eyes widen)
J: Don't want to have you hanging around me like a leech. I think you're just a problem, so stay the h*ll away from me because I don't believe in you, and I wanna sit here all my life alone. This may sound a little rough, don't wanna fall in love!
(Jos starts to argue)
J: Don't need security; I ain't no dog without a bone. Don't have no time for love, so stay the f*ck away from me because I don't believe in you, and I wanna sit here all my life alone. This may sound a little rough, don’t wanna fall in love!
(During the instrumental part, Jos grabs J’s hands and they dance. Meanwhile, W enters and walks up to the Apartment and sees all this through the window. Hurt, she runs. J pulls away and falls on the bed with her feet near her chest. Jos steps closer)
J: This may sound a little rough, don't wanna fall in love.
(Jos steps closer)
J: This may sound a little rough, don't wanna fall in love.
(He gets even closer)
J: This may sound a little f*cked
(Pushes Jos away)
J: Don't wanna fall in love!
(Pushes Jos out the door and slams it in his face. J then leans against the door. Scene)
