Green Day news & updates
Butch Vig Producing New Album
You may know Butch Vig as the drummer for the alternative rock band Garbage, however you'll soon know him as the producer of Green Day's next album! During an interview with Carson Daly, the leader singer of Garbage, Shirley Manson, announced that Vig was going to be producing the new album. However, the announcement hasn't been confirmed by any official source yet aside from Shirley.
This is not Vig's first time producing, he has worked with the best of the best. Some of the highly successful albums he helped to create that you may know of include Nirvana's Nevermind, AFI's Sing the Sorrow, Jimmy Eat World's Chase This Light, Smashing Pumpkins' Siamese Dream and Against Me!'s New Wave. You can watch the boys record with Vig in the studio in this video, courtesy of vonny.
Habitat for Humanity and New Album Info
In efforts to raise money for the Habitat for Humanity charity, Green Day has autographed a Gibson Epiphone guitar to be given away during an auction. 100% of all the proceeds go directly to the Habitat for Humanity charity. Other celebrities giving something away in the auction include 30 Seconds to Mars, Christian Bale, Linkin Park, the cast of Grey's Anatomy as well as many, many others. For more information, visit Ebay where the auction will take place.
In other news, Warner Music UK has formed a mailing list for fans to sign up (with an email address) and according to that mailing list the new Green Day album can be expected next year in 2009.
New Album Advances?
In an interview with the Marin Independent Journal, Tom Higgenson (who you may know as the frontman of Plain White Tees) made a comment involving a potential recording project of Green Day. It seems the band was interested in a potential Malibu recording spot.
"One day after a run on the beach, Higgenson came home just as Billie Joe Armstrong and the other members of Green Day arrived unannounced to say hello and check out the house for a recording project of their own."
In addition to hinting at a new recording, Higgenson also managed to let on that he was a Green Day fan as well...
"The title track on "Big Bad World" smacks of Green Day, reviewers say, and Higgenson admits he and his bandmates were a bit starstruck when their heroes showed up.
"We were trying to play it cool, but in our heads we were going 'Holy. É,' and our hearts were beating real hard," he recalls with a laugh."
