I just don't see the logic behind self-harm anyway. Suicide, yes.

But how does slitting your wrists, getting more depressed and embroiling yourself in more and more pain help at all?. Ehh, maybe i'm just different to the majority of teenagers these days.
Maybe I can just deal with things inside my head but you need to take the anger out on your bodies, I don't know.

If i'm upset or angry I just mull it over, think about it for a while and then move on...

It's not about being upset or angry. It's the pressure of depression or anxiety or some other mental disorder that you can't just "mull over" and move on. People cut themselves because the physical pain from the cutting makes the emotional pain subside for a moment - it's a break from the constant tension inside of you.
It might make you feel even worse afterwards, but it's a sacrifice for the relief that the self-harm gives you. If people choose to make this sacrifice - I will not blame them. And I don't think anyone should.

Hmn...I'm not blaming them. Obviously it must be a great help to people because so many people do it so it can only be a good thing for people with inner problems. I was under the impression that some people do self harm because anger or being upset (Distressed being a better word?) to relieve emotional pain as you put it...and it wasn't exclusively down to mental disorders or depression...Confused. I thought they were simply indicators of such a thing.

Perhaps its simply one of those things that just doesn't suit me. Maybe I just deal with things by thinking about them, logically, maybe I'm just not very emotonal at all. We all deal with things differently, y'know, and if people slit their wrists to deal with it then I respect them for it, so long as they aren't just doing it because they're a little down and all their friends are doing it like *Blue Star* says ...

Well, it's not like anyone is asking you to come join them in the cutting, right?
And the whole deal with being cool is just a whole different animal - that's just stupid, and hopefully those people will understand that eventually.

Good job, too. I've been in real pain before, and I didn't like it, because I am (physically) a coward.

Surely you can see where I'm coming from though...The appeal of cutting as a trend in general. I can understand haircuts. I can understand clothing. I can understand music. I cannot understand the appeal in inflicting un-necessary pain upon yourself for the sake of fashion. I'm not criticizing these teengaers when they do self-harm for genuine reasons, but for smaller things...you can tell they're only doing it because of their 'Scene' culture. Which Is why I said I prefer to deal with these matters mentally rather than physically. Because like I said, I am cowardly and not not like pain.

I just think they could have picked a more appealing fad anyway.

What irritates me most is that those fake cutters make uninformed people think that all cutters are fake. And so people who have genuine problems get all kinds of shit for cutting. People who actually need help get more problems because some dumbass fashion victims create a wrong image of self harm. Rolling Eyes

Haven't you sworn not to post in this thread anymore?

Ah, it's not like I was kicking you out of the thread. Confused I just kinda recalled that you said you'll never post here again and found it interesting that you broke that one again.
Anyway, the whole deal will fake cutting has already been discussed in bright colors many many times - maybe we should just leave it.

Fourteen times? (Interesting number, indeed) (Yeah, I went back and I counted...)

Ah, I know what you're saying. You're saying to me: "Megan, you hypocritical little cretin, You're a liar and a promise breaker. Go to bed!"

Nah, I mean, I just can't help it at times...We also agreed to forgive and forget around page 49...Which I took as a sign I could post again [/Off-Topic]

I love your research abilities... Very Happy
Well, I'd never say "Megan, you hypocritical little cretin, You're a liar and a promise breaker. Go to bed!", because even though I do know your first name, we've never exactly been propperly introduced, so I wouldn't dare call you by your first name Confused Besides, I don't think you're a cretin (interesting word), and since we've apparently agreed on putting out your promise, you obviously have every right to post without having idiots like me making comments on something that died 20 pages ago..

This was a very useless post...

Yeah...crazy is good. But fake craziness like,"If I do this, it'll make me look crazy. Should I do it?" is just...not fun.

I haven't been around for ages here... somehow it seems like this thread have sortr of slipped out off topic. If there are people here who are geniune depressed and are slefharming they dont need to hear that they are just doing it for attention or stuff like that. It can be hard enough if your friends talk like that... I hope i dont get alot of shit for this, but frankly I dont care.
if i'd talked to some of you before, I hope you all are doing ok. Myself I got my ups and down, mostly downs at the mo. take care and hugs to all of you that goes thru a rough time

I guess, a lot of people think about suicide when they are depressed...but to think and to do it are totally different things. If a person really loves himself/herself, he/she will never do this. Besides it doesn't change anything, by killing or harming yourself you as if say to things that make you do this : "Okay, you won and I will kill myself cuz I can't take that anymore....." It's kinda showing your weakness, incapability to solve your problems in another way. Though I agree that everybody has the right to do with themselves whatever they want, if cutting/killing themselves is the only way they can find to manage with depression/pain, it's up to them! I doubt that it's a question of wha tyou really wants to do. perhaps the first few times you hurt yourself, but then it get into a urge, an addiction. and when you come so far that you'll commit suicide nothing else except that matters. you dont see bright on anything except death

That's true, you get into a state of mind where it's addictive and nothing else really matters.

Sorry I haven't spoken to you in a while, by the way! I haven't been on here in forever, because we lost the stories thread and stuff. Hope you're doing okay =)

That's exactly why I haven't given in yet. I don't want to get addicted especially if life somehow gets better and also, someone would find out.
