do you guys think the saying "Under God" should be taken out of the pledge?

i do because in a country that expresses freedom of religion there should not be under god in a openly stated phrase. maybe it should be changed to "Under all gods" but not "Under God"......what do you think?

I think it's ridiculous that people are just noticing that as a part of the song, it makes them look stupid. i respect all religious beliefs and everything, but if you dont like it, you dont have to say it, you arent forced to.

yeah, they do the same part here. i dont see why people dont have more respect for their country though. i mean, i dont care if they stand up, but its common courtesy to all of the people who died to make this country what it is.

i don't say the pledge of allegiance, not because i find it anti-seperation-of-church-and-state because it is, but i personally don't say it because i have always found it cult-esque and odd to pledge my allegiance to a piece of cloth. out of courtesy i do stand up.

that said, i don't know whether it should be removed or not. it is strictly against the seperation of church and state claim, but i don't think that it truly offends anyone. i suppose it comes down to how far political correctness must go and such.

I agree. Thats what I do I just stand up. But everyone puts their hand over their heart and says it. Ive gotten introuble for not putting my hand over my heart and not saying it before. I just told them that why I should pledge to a flag? They say to show respect. Show respect to a flag? No to the men and women who died for our country. Um Thats why Im standing up. Anyway they have learned to let it go.

I think it's stupid to take it out, the nation was founded under God's name, so we should pledge under the same god
if you think different, say different, a kid by me in class (a really nice guy) would say "one nation, under Alah"
I think you say whatever the hell you want, as long as you also pledge allegence to the country
he came from Africa but he still loves this country and his god, if I don't believe in his god okay
he even thinks that people are too sensitive about this
don't change it people, that's being gay, waste your time protesting something important, if you can believe anything you want, you should be able to say it during the Pledge of Allegence

Not being american i dont know the words so can't really judge on it, but in church (at a catholic school) i dont usually say prayers as i dont believe in God, however i do stand up, and genuflect (kneel to the altar) when i enter and leave because im in what is a sacred place to a lot of people there.

It was kind of offensive, yes.

I think it's stupid for people to just begin noticing this. Although, I think it shouldn't be there. If you have no religion, but have to say the pledge in school, it's offensive. And having to say anything with "God" is stupid, since you have to seperate religion and school at my school.

then just say "one nation, under justice" or something like that, and I don't call individuals gay, just ideas and symbols/groups

I really don't see it hurting anyone to say the pledge. I've seen people stand up and put their hand over their heart and just not say it. Or, as suggested before, just replace the word "God" with something you're more comfortable with. The pledge isn't about honoring God, and I think some people mistake that. They're so caught up in not wanting to say "God" that I think they forget what the pledge is really saying. You're pledging allegiance to your country, not God. So just skip that part or something. Unless you truly hate this country.. then I don't know what to say to you.

the pledge should remain the pledge...to change it now would go against tradtion, and maybe it would be a bit more open minded...but people shouldn't be so touchy about saying the countries pledge...if they hate it that much...they might not say it, or just move...

What i do is: Stand (because i have respect for my country and what it is, or trying to be) but i dont say anything or put my hand on my heart because ive said that damn thing atleast 1400 times and i dont need to say it again. And i dont want to say 'under god' i dont want to acknowledge that there is some higher being because i believe there isnt.
Then we have the moment of silence, which is pointless.

I dont know, now i think they should take it out completly. I mean, whats the point? To pledge our allegience to our country? to someone elses god? to *shudder* our president? Our 'leaders'? A 'flag'?

lmfao Bonzo goes to bitburg just came on, and thats in that movie. ooh creepy.

I thought of something else. It is offensive to some people, i mean if we say that, then that would be like making us say that god is real. And thats making me say something i believe is false.

I can see why you wouldn't want to pledge allegiance to some of those things, but not to want to pledge allegiance to your own country? That's just.. God, there's not even a word for it. You are better off just moving then.

exactly...i mean...i dont particularly like england...but id rather be here than in Africa, because here, we have food and water and homes and we are well off...and im sure america gives you food and water and wealth (you don't have to be really wealthy to have wealth) and if you cant respect your country for giving you those, then you should move...

That's just it, people don't know how good they have it. Would you rather live in a communist country? I really doubt it..
