as we all know (I should hope if you're in this forum) Dan Rathers is no longer a main stream reporter...for anti-Bush propaganda
I was watching The Daily Show (with John Stewart) last night (early this morning) and I realized...he's the most credible intelligent media reporter available to the U.S.
I decided to do more research on him and he was actually asked to replace Dan, he said no. (for those who don't know, John Stewart's show is on Comedy Central)
as I watch the news on TV every day, and read articles on the internet, I think that it's pitiful, how Michael Jackson's every move is carfully reported through most media, yet there's no reports on important issues, unless they're watered down (like: Bush keeps tropps in Iraq, back to Martha Stwart's reality show...)

tell me what you expect out of today's media, because I know I'm not the only one who's unsatisfied

i think t.v has too much reality crap on it, and i think things that are educational yet funny should be brought back. sure, i like viva la bam and daria, but that's people's taste. i would like to see some more comedy/documentary on t.v though...

its like now-a-days the media is always holding information from us because we can't handle it and give us the bare minimum of facts and so we jump to the wrong conclusions which leads to the suffering of people.
I mean its our world, we deserve to know whats going on in it, i mean if you watch the news its to get the news, the real news not some crap about how the spice girls aren't getting back together!

And yeah there is too much reality tv. People seem to think that they can go on them shows, become famous and then have the rest of their lives mapped out for them. Well news flash....no ya cant!
I mean we got wannabe pop stars, housemates who end up releasing pop career's and "celebrities" trying to reboost their name!
I mean get a life, reality tv sucks, we have enough reality in our own lives, we dont need to see everyone elses.

haha, little effers.

i really dont like media for many reasons, 1-they like to take down every president, because people are more interested in listening to people bitch than people who tell the good things...

2-the media has blown the catholic faith into a oblivion, making it seem like every priest is a gay pedaphile. actually, less than 1% of them are, and not everyones perfect, and it happens in every religion, so why do they decide our ass is the best for blowing smoke up?

3-everything thats negative(like the president thing) is all the show, because thats more viewers. who the hell cares about the good things, 15 people blew up today!

so yea, thats my takes. AND JON STEWART ROCKS. that is definitly the best media show ever. if you havent watched it you ought to.

i agree with you, jon stewart is the best i watch him almost every night. i find it better to concentrate when he does it because its not just the news flat out nothing else....because that stuff is boring....the way he puts it, he gets younger people to watch it while getting them the news that they need.

Yeah you are right. The media concentrates more on celebrity's rather than important issues.Fair enough - i expect celebrity's in the newspapers and magazines, but not instead of important issues. The way that they are concentrated on is pathetic, i mean you get front page articles such as 'Sly Saskia has been evicted from the big brother house and has been forced to leave her lover behind' or 'britney's bridesmaids outfits are tracksuits'. WHO GIVES A FUCKTER!?
I mean, what a load of crap - this is front page stuff! It makes me laugh how journalists belive this is big enough to go on the front page. It's pathetic!

I don't watch my local news anymore because it shows about ten minute coverage of important issues and the rest of the hour is celebrity trials and the stories of people from our state who made it onto reality shows. So I get my information from other places.
JOHN STEWART ROCKS!!!

I dont know much about the media in America:

But nowadays in England the tabloids are full of crap, mostly about balding or over-weight Z-list celebrities trying to re-launch their pitiful careers by going on some pointless crappy reality TV show.
Personally, I couldn't give a crap that some 'celebrity' is eating a sandwich or getting fat, or i dont know wearing a hat. I mean between that and all the advertisements theres not much room for real news.

solution: buy a broadsheet, yeah it costs like 20p more, its almost impossible to hold one of them without it falling apart..but they tend to cover more serious issues.

The best thing that ever came out of the british media was John Peel, you probably wont have heard of him. But what he did, while other radio DJ's were playing songs from the top 40, he was playing stuff that people wouldnt have heard of. He gave a lot of big bands their first break on his radio show and some say he contributed a lot to putting punk into the mainstream. I suggest you get hold of his biography its quite good.

yet they sell millions of copies daily. The fact is that a lot of the general public are more interested in that than these important issues so its the best way for a newspaper to make money.

People have to realise that the media whether it be newspapers, television news programs, or magazines are all businesses, their primary concern is to increase there profits, therefore they are going to report on and write information which is generally going to gain the attention of as many individuals as possible. that is why you will see things like a celebrity and there new born child on the front of a magazine before you see pictures of severely mulnourished children suffering.

they are not necessarily hiding the truth from us they are just only giving us what we want to hear and therefore what is going to give them the greatest profits.
