Numbers are written on the lines to show you where to fret the string
with the left hand. If a zero appears , this means play the open string.
Like standard musical notation, you read from left to right to find
out what order to play the notes. The following piece of TAB would mean
play the sequence of notes (E F F# G G# A) on the bottom E string by
moving up a fret at a time, starting with the open string.

E----------------------------------------------------------------
B----------------------------------------------------------------
G----------------------------------------------------------------
D----------------------------------------------------------------
A----------------------------------------------------------------
E---0--1--2--3--4--5---------------------------------------------

That has confused me. I'm attemting to learn tabs. I'm not doing to well.

Drum tabs are so much easier.

*sigh*...I think...the numbers mean which fingers you need to put on that chord. Iunno.

Right, so all you have to do is play open E, then fret at the first and play, then move your finger down a fret each time while you play.

it's easy enough, though i cant really talk, it took me long enough to understand...the 6 lines are the strings, lowest is the bottom e, and highest is the top e...and the number are where you need to postition your fingers on the fret board...so 0 would be just play an open e, 1 would be on the first fret ect...

if your playing chords its easier to read from just the letters, like A,B,C,D e.t.c rather than writing the chords out in tab form. well i think it is.
