no, it's not ok...9-year-olds need to live their lives doing more...kiddy things. they shouldn't try to grow up too soon, because one day they will really be grown up and they'll regret missing out on their childhood.

I'm pretty opinionated on this. I think girls are definitely not growing up too fast. They're doing the opposite. They're trying to pretend they're growing up when all they're doing is really acting stupid and immaturely.

Okay, like they think its cool to wear short shorts, and shirts that reveal so much just because their celebrity icons do. They need to learn the difference between what's write and wrong. And they think that drinking is cool, so they start drinking when they're young.

About the cell phone thing, I'm kinda on both sides about that. I didn't get my first cell phone til I was a freshman in high school. I think it should definitely be that way for everyone. High School is a different world that middle school. In Middle School, kids are dependent on their teachers, but in HS, teachers aren't going to be there for the kids.

Make up, I think make up isn't natural. The only type of make up I use is eyeliner.. and that's hardly ever. I didn't even start using goddamn eyeliner til this year, and I'm 15, almost 16.

Ahhh this is gonna be a long post.

I'm not gonna forget about guys. But I think its a little different for guys. Guys don't mature til they're older, girls "mature" younger, so their opinions change sooner. Like they may be tomboys up until they're 9, then all of a sudden they hit puberty and they change. I was always a tomboy but I know I changed once I hit puberty, but I sitll have a bit of my tomboy streak in me sometimes.

Boys, a lot of them look up to rappers as their idols. But a lot of them also look up to rockers too. But anyways, I'm gonna talk about the ones that look up to rappers. They dress like them, and think its cool, wearing pants that show their asses, and huge shirts and shwoing off their bling, it's not cool. Then they think it's awesome that they open their cell phones and brag about it and shit. And they think that girls are only hot when they wear the shit that doesn't cover up any of their body.

Wow, I feel like an old lady saying all this. I'm pretty opinionated. I always blame it on today's music, though I know, today's modern gadgets and stuff don't help too.

Whatever happened, to just playing sports or not playing sports, and talking and hanging out and wearing whatever you wanted? And playing with your friends. It still happens, but its different.

Shit I'm confusing myself. So I'm gonna shut up.

I am literally horrified by some of things that people do these days.
I remember a time when what you wore or what type of stuff you like didn't matter at all.
Now, it seems like all anybody cares about is how "hot" they look, or how "rich" they are.
Wearing a short skirt and having your cell phone attached to your ear at all times isn't going to cut it.
Most girls seem to think acting like that will get them everywhere in life.
They seem to think the more hot or rich they are, the more boys will want to have sex with them.
Which is another dumb thing.
Most of these girls seem to enjoy movies where the two main characters have sex during every other scene.
"Oh, that movie is so cool, I want to be just like that one girl!!" Mhm.
Seriously, most boys will eventually mature and find those types of girls to be huge jerks.
I suggest these girls break the stereotypes, be theirselves, and enjoy being young while they still can.

I definatly think girls are growing up too fast. I'm going into 10th grade, in the beginning of 7th grade a girl moved to our school who's mom was a drug addict, and she had already been through several drug things of her own. Almost every girl I know has had at least one sexual encounter.

I was watching Tyra last night and it was a whole show on teens and sex. One of the kids on there recieved and gave oral sex for the first time at the age of 10.

I'm only 16, and I find today's youth to be the scariest thing on the planet. It's absoluly terrifying how many freshman at my high school O.D.ed last year.

Where has the childhood scene gone?

In my school, 'Fun' is dating and kissing and progressing from there (i'm going into 7th grade)

I still consider fun as dancing around stupidly and lip synching to My Chemical Romance.

Am I mentally retarded or something?

And it amazes me that little girls consier Hilary Duff a role model. I saw her in a dress which the V-neck went past her belly button. Which is similar to how the girls in my school are atarting to dress, only in shorts that could be mistaken as underwear and shirts that dont go past their belly button. I still don't know how that got popular.

How about the kids who don't use cell phones to show off but use them to call their parents?

Yeah, I have a mobile, and I don't use it to call everyone and show off. I don't buy the latest mobile phone, (or get my parents to either). I have a mobile for sensible reasons, so I can contact people I'm hanging out with if I'm running late, to tell people where I'm going to be, and to call my mum and let her know what time I'm gonna be home. I also use it to message my boyfriend, and those are the only times I use it.

Mobiles aren't an evil, and I know kids in my year who had mobiles when they were 11, because they caught the train to school every day.

This has been bugging me from the first time I posted in this thread.

Cellphones
You're all judging them for having a phone? What gives you any right to decide how they use their phone and what gives you the right to judge them. I have been able to talk for 14 years now, whats the difference between when I was 1 and now on my cellphone? Did I grow up to fast when I started talking...no. Having a cellphone has absoluetly nothing to do with growing up. You're all just as bad for using that as a reason as to why they're growing up just as fast.

Clothes
Also, what gives you any right to judge what they wear? Everyone has their own personal style, no one said you had to like it. You guys are acting superior and acting as if you have the right to judge other people and say they arent living their lives correctly and growing up to fast, then you go and base your arguement as something as ignorant as clothes, Clothes are just an attatchment, they have nothing to do with the actual person. You may find something they wear to be "skimpy" or you may think its "slutty" but guess what, you're not the one wearing it. Idividuality is an extremely small light in a quickly darkening tunnel, dont put it out faster then it already is. Let them wear what they want, because it's their life, not yours.

Relationships
alright, Im 14, so this whole thread is basically targeted at people in or around my age group, let me explain things to you. People have "signinfigant others", this is when the whole idea of Dating starts. GET OVER IT. Do you know how many people talk about sex and never actually do anything 99.9% of them, because they know they're not ready. Having a boyfriend consist's of Making out in Movies, talking on MSN and holding hands in the hallway at school, yeah, thats really growing up isnt it? Rolling Eyes You guys are acting as if it's something horrible and awful, and I bet you most of you either
A- have a boyfriend/girlfriend
B- want one

So, quit judging other people and saying that they are too young to have a boyfriend. this is the only argument that remotely relates to growing up. it's natural to be attrackted to other people, when that starts happening, you can't stop it. It might not be the same attraction from the time your 12 to 21, but none the less, the attraction exists.

Body image

I can't believe this is even here. Caring about how you look means your growing up? Thats a sign of maturity, being so centered aroundthe media and wanting to be perfect? Sounds to me more like the sound of being a teenager. You were/are teenagers at one time, and reguardless of what you say, you cared about how you looked, because thats important to you. So was school (to some o_o) boys (or girls), sports, shopping, hanging with your friends. Thats stuff is important to teenagers and has been, its normal.

Here is what isnt Normal: developing eating disorders and becoming overly obsessed with your image to the point where is becomes hazzordous. Why are you guys pushing this off on young girls? Someone older can develop and eating disorder as well, are we going to say the 30-something year old is growing up to fast too? Quit mocking them for having disorders and saying that they are growing up too fast because of it, thats really what someone with an eating disorder needs to hear, something else about them isnt perfect Confused

Sexism in this thread
I love how you guys have centered this whole thread around girls, and in the thread about sexism, you were all against it. Thats totally not hypocritical...

Growing up
Based on everything you guys have said growing up involves: cellphones, short skirts (based on your idea of what short is) Boyfriends, and sex that kids arent even having.

Is that seriously how you pictutre growing up? If it is, I think you all have alot of growing up too do. Growing up is about maturing and realizing the world isnt centered around you, taking responability, making your own choices, becoming a good person that you want to be, paying attention to your education because it is important. Thats growing up. You're telling me thats happening to fast? Well, I strongly disagree, that can never happen to fast.

I honestly hate when there are girls in my school who have a makeup overload, a clothing underload, are sluts and whores, and carry cell phones everywhere. I hate people who have cell phones and it's practically their life. It's nice to have a cell phone if I'm going to an away track meet so I can call my mom to tell her when it's over and to come pick me up from the school, but otherwise, why the need for cell phones? I just borrow my moms sometimes if I really need it: done. I'm 13 and cell-phoneless, heck, I've always wanted one until I saw the effects they have on some people.

Ok, I got a little off subject so back on the girls who grow up too fast. It burns me so much when girls date for a short time and tell the world that they are soooo in love. Then they do sex, and get dumped. Anyone see a point in that? Make-up's fine, as long as you know how to make it look natural and good. Most girls in my school just put on some black eyeliner and mascara and call it a day. Oh boy, and don't get me started on our school dances. The girls dance so slutty there, it makes me barf. I go to have a good time, and if a good songs come on, I'll dance like a complete idiot, whip my hair around, not caring what people think. Most girls are "too good for that" and they want to guard their reputations by grinding with their friends. How attractive.
