hold on there, yu cant blame the perants all the time, on some occassions yes the perants should take responsiblity, but they cant be with they're kids 24/7!!

Anything and everything your kid does until it's 18, you're accountable for, even if you arent there. It's that attitude that I can't stand. Parents need to step it up and act like parents. You might not be able to be there 24/7... but that isn't any excuse. You're still the parent, and you're still held accountable for what happens to, and around, your kid. Thats part of being a parent.

You dont have to be there 24/7, but you see how your kids are acting, you dont need a week to figure it out!

ok well for example, in our local school they have been told to wear skirts below they're knees so most perants make sure they're girls wear that length but the girls are going into school and then turning up they're skirts, the perants cant be held responsible for that, oh yeah and by the way i do hold myself responsible for MY kids!! I punish according to what they have done wrong, and i make sure they know that everything they do wrong gets back to me in the end!

Nobody said that you didnt take care of your kids, but some parents just dont! I know that you cant be around all the time, but there are more serious problems then a skirt above the knee. I just cant understand how some parents let their kids get awaay with stuff. Like one girl was ten and she could stay out after 11 p.m. Her parents let her do that!

How you raise your kids has absolutely nothing to do with this arguement and why you brought that up is beyond me... but whatever Eh

And like I said before... until they are 18 the parent is held accountable for everything. It may not always be fair, but when you have a kid you accept that. Parents that dislike that can suck it up and get over it. When you kid does things like violate a dress code, either A, you're going to be a pushover parent and they will have no respect for your athority or B you can punish them until they do start listening to you. Who's fault was it that the kid didn't listen in the first place? maybe the parent who raised them.

In short the answer is yes. What do we expect, though? In this kind of world their bound to.

I mean, take commercials for instance. The ones for clearasil (sp?) make out that unless you have perfect skin, no man will ever be attracted to you and you'll have low self-confidence until you do.
But how many (teenage) boys actually end up with a girlfriend without at least the odd spot here or there.

And all those rimmel adds, if you buy them you can look like Kate Moss. Not the kate without make up on, but the airbrushed one who has great skin, great hair, nice figure - giving out the impression that you should be like this. And lets face facts, how many of us are ever going to look like she does in those adverts?

That probably looked like dribble, and i'm most likely a hypocrite. But that's my two cents.

im 11 years old and girls in my skool wear make-up, in apropreate (sp?) clothes, and bring cell phones 2 skool. do u think thats ok?

The question was did i think make-up, inappropriate clothes and cellphones was making girls today grow up too fast.

Suddenly make-up and clothes have nothing to do with appearance?
My answer was yes and i stated my reasons.

actually in UK when a child reaches 16 they can be done in a court of law has an adult, that i was told by a police man just recently. And there have been cases where a 16yr old has been tried has an adult, but its by the courts discression

The key phrase there is "can be" tried as an adult, and thats up to the court anyways. Honestly, if you kid did something bad enough to be tried as an adult before they are 18, chances are you're a bad parent anyways.

Mkay, the question was do those things make girls grow up too fast.... so tell me what those things have to do with growing up. I fail to see the relation between how much make up you wear and how grown up you are.

Well, I started wearing make-up when I was 12..
But there is no way in hell you would ever catch me wearing slutty clothes.
I think it's ridiculous when I see 10 year old kids walking down the street wearing a tube top and a mini skirt. I saw a little group of them all giggling and then they got splashed with water from a car driving past, I couldn't help but laugh.

Your opinion of what's acceptable and what isnt might not match what theirs is. This is why this whole thread being centered on image vexs me so much, there is alot more to growing up than the clothes you wear, in fact clothes have little to do with growing up aside from the fact that they make you feel grown up. Just because you feel older and more mature does NOT make you grown up. Anyone who thinks that a short skirt makes you grown up is the complete opposite of mature.

Girls try too act grown up. Thy feel they need to have sex at a young age, look the coolest, have older boyfriends, and do unethical things. I know I'm probably sounding like a mom, but it's the truth. Girl should be girls for a while. They shouldn't worry about these things as much as they do.

You are being very sexist in my opinion. Has it never occurred to you that guys play just as big a role as girls do in the growing up of girls. It's not like we're having sex with girls, it's the guys we're having sex with. And sometimes that's not a bad thing. As long as it's not for any sort of popularity contest, I think it's perfectly fine. Everybody always tries to act more grown up. When you're a todler you try and act more grown up. You dress in your mother's clothes and what not. Well, same deal. It's not growing up, it's just an act.

Clothes paly a role in the whole growing up thing, but not that important one. How you dress doesnt show how you act! If I went out with my Dead Kenendys t-shirt, then I am supposed to act all dirty punk and get stoned. No. The same thing in growing up. If someones likes short skirts it doesnt make me a slut. How they act shows who they are!

Ridiculous, it's got nothing to do with being a 'chav'. Just because someone is labelled a chav doesn't mean that they think they're growing up any quicker.

And if you're going to live your life by discriminating against people and staying away from people because of a stereotype, then you're going to have problems later on.

My opinion is that girls are growing up too fast because of increased peer pressure to smoke, drink, and be attractive to boys and ready for sex at an early age. If they do that through the clothes they wear, then yes, image is an issue.
