Posts: 255 | July 10th, 2005 at 06:44am Green Day paid tribute to the victims of Thursday’s bomb attack during a storming headline set at the Oxegen Festival last night (July 9).
As the band started ‘Wake Me Up When September Ends’, front-man Billie Joe Armstrong said: "Two days ago there was a tragedy. This is for the all the innocents."
However, the day belonged to Green Day. The veterans played up to their Irish hosts with fireworks and stabs at Irish nationalism. At one point, Armstrong took an Irish tricolour flag from the crowd and wrapped it round himself as he ran from side to side on the stage.
During the two hour show, they ran through tracks from ‘American Idiot’ and classics like ‘Basket Case’ and ‘Time Of Your Life’.
