a report I made for school, but feel free to disagree with me:

Some say that the content allowed in TV and radio is despicable. Many parents say that it is for the safety of their children that these things are censored. Nevertheless, many people want their entertainment uncensored, and are legitimately allowed to view it. Censorship should be the responsibility of the parent. Granted, there should be a more detailed rating system, but taking specific content out of these Medias is not effective. When you are watching a television program or listening to a song on the radio where they bleep out half of a word so that it sounds like “bull s#*t” it can take you right of the program. Besides, anyone over the age of five knows what was originally said.
The intentions for censorship are good, but are only accepted because it sounded moral and it kept worried parents from complaining. Censorship needs to be lifted; but stricter and more detailed rating systems are needed, with or without censorship. What do you think would be more effective: A kid viewing a television program with many words edited out, or nothing bleeped out, but the parent is informed by a possible rating of mVeLcH (mild violence, explicit language, and crude humor) labeled semi-transparently in the corner? I know your instant reaction would be to just have the violence, language and humor taken out, but imagine a thirty-two year old taxpayer viewing the same program, with the content edited out because there is also a child watching it half way across the country. It disrupts his entertainment and there is no need for him to not view it.
However, you must take into consideration that if the thirty-two year old views uncensored entertainment then the little kid will too, right? Wrong! There has been a revolution in television called The V-Chip. Shows with certain ratings can be blocked using this device. According to recent commercials (from a non-profit organization) most televisions in America have these handy devices. So with additional ratings, and basic technology why can’t this chip only censor out come content, instead of the whole program? There is no one who would have a reason to complain about it. Everyone benefits. Parents can use it to block content for their children, and everyone else can just ignore it and be happy.
Of course most of these decisions are still up to the station the program is on, and with certain regulations, cable television doesn’t require censorship. But censorship should only be with those who need it or want it. It is a very personal decision and should be customizable so that the entertainment fits the person. Entertainment is more valuable to people. It can help them escape life, feel emotions, or just make them laugh. So know that you are allowing too much content for some people, and not enough for others. Censorship should be the choice of the people, you have the choice to give them that.

Let me get one thing straight:

This is America (I know, we have people from other countries on this site) we have the right to free speech.

Everytime something is bleeped, I feel like we're losing a bit of that first amendment.

It's okay to say "I'm going to burn your babies" on TV. But god forbid someone would say "shit"

Sexy av, by the way, lol.

Meh, I think it makes sense to have censorship to a degree, but some of it is just stupid. I hate the song, but on the radio they edit out 'phunk' in Don't Phunk With My Heart. It's so stupid, 'cause the chorus becomes 'No, no, no, no don't ____ with my heart' which makes it sound like it's fuck which pisses parents off, so parents are getting pissed over the word phunk. Confused
And what REALLY pisses me off is when people edit things based on interpertations. In Scars, on the radio they edit out 'go fix yourself' wtf? I guess they think people will think they're saying go fuck yourself?? That annoys the hell out of me.
They can't say gun, either, or anything involving extreme violence, depending on the content. "They say music can alter moods and talk to you, Well can it load a gun up for you , and cock it too?" On the radio they edit out the whole second half of that, which is just stupid.

I only understood the Eminem reference...I know Scars is an emo song, that's it

but yeah, Eminem isn't really as bad uncensored, we miss out on helf the song, and what's edited out is stuff we can say out loud in school and not get in trouble

I was like absoulutley no way in the begging of your post, but by the time I was done I started to agree with you. Your very convincing Nick.

Anywho I believe [now] that the parent of the 6 yr. old watching people say words like "shit" and "fuck" should be responsible and make sure that
their kid could be viewing something they might find innopropriate.

It loses it's, how do I put it...entertainment? when your hearing "Bleep, bleep, bleep, bleep". And it's absoulutley corny when you hear you "airhole" where "asshole" should be, for an adult viewing the program.

I think that its stupid that they censor cable because there's all these cuss words on the internet and they don't get bleeped. Think about it, there's a cuss word in almost every post in this topic and there are kids here reading this.....its just really stupid.

i completely agree. i mean, seeing cuss words on the internet is practically the same as hearing it on tv. the only difference is on tv you can actually hear how the word sounds. but even if you read it you know how it sounds anyway so what does it matter?

censorship nowadays is ridiculous. when they bleep a word out isnt it just insulting out intelligence?
and another thing i find really fucking stupid, on the video for dont tell me by avril lavigne, avril punches a mirror and it breaks. on kerrang now, you still see it happen, but her hand is blurred only on contact with the mirror. i ask you, why bother at all? and on the video for gay bar by electric 6, there's a load of homophobia and even a statue with its balls out that arent blurred, but they bleep the line "lets start a nuclear war"
Shocked
WTF?
