...most people I know of, who are my age, including those that started back when we were like 13 or so, didn't use condoms. A lot of people don't have the sense to.

What makes you decided that your old enough?
Nothing inside you ticks and then beeps when you are ready to engage in activities like that.
Although, you may think you are are ready but what if it\\\'s just peer pressure like your boyfriend or something.
Girls, especially younger ones are very committed to keep their boyfriends happy. So if they ask for sex, the girl will most likely give in and give it to tehm.

And for the condoms bit, In Canada at least, we aren\\\'t taught how to put a condom on till at least 11th grade. Long after many people have already have.

one question: would they respect it if there was a legal age?

Where'd you.. um.. live?

I'd say the vast majority of countries already have a sex age.
In fact, I can't think of one that doesn't.
So it isn't an "if" XD

I live in Romania and i've never heard of any legal sex age.Maybe it is but i don't think so.
And how can it be stopped even if there is a legal age???

I don't know much about Romania, 'cept its in the EU, so I'd be surprised if there was no legal age.

It can't be 'stopped', per se. But you can get in trouble if people find out. If.

It's ridiculously frustrating Mad

My very best friend has a tendency to be rather, um, promiscuous, and she has NEVER used a condom. She's not ignorant, if she somehow managed to miss the rambling about the dangers of STDs from her sex ed teacher, it would've been made up for by mine. And yet the fact that she has no good, justifiable excuse for putting her health at risk doesn't bother her much. It seriously doesn't.

Yeah, I know of guys who have actually said to the girls "Do you want to use a condom?" and the girls say no. One guy carries them with him just incase, but the girl chooses not to use them.

having a legal sex age actually doesnt tend to stop teenagers from doing it.
not that i have or anything.
but i know people who have. and i dont think you can get in trouble if both partners are under the legal age.

i dont know what its like in other countries or even other areas of britain but the amount of sex ed we do here is ridiculous. im only 14 and i already know more than i want to about it. But being educated is better than being naive and getting hurt

Guys can also choose not to ue them.

There are other methods of contraception that don't include barriers like the pill, the cycle, and the most common one for those whoh 'forget' their condom, the 'pull-out-when-you're-almost-there-and-have-her-suck-it-off'. Most girls I know may appear less cautious because guys generally like that more, but trust me, they all count the days and they all listen up in biology when they're taught about the menstural cycle.

Isn't the cycle still unreliable?
I mean, there is always the chance it could be a few days out, or a few days early. Relying on nature can be risky.

My best friend has never used a condom because it, apparently, feels better. Smiley

I was taught how to use a condom when I was 11. In Canada. I think it just depends what school you go to.

And so, there may not be an age at which people all of a sudden know that they can have sex, because it is different from person to person. But generally, if you're old enough to think about it and do it with yourself, you're old enough to do it, physically. The fact that you think about it and that you're over the age and have matured enough to stop thinking about how gross it is means that you are ready for it. Society though has drawn a safety line in the sand at the age of eighteen because that's the age when the government generally is lead to believe that kids can take care of themselves finally. The reason there is a law is so that everyone is set off on the same foot, I mean there are other reasons, but generally the though of foreboding that occurs in one's mind while breaking the law makes more people wait till they're 'of age' so everyone can 'start off life' together.

If you use the cycle, the first thing you learn is to observe yourself as much as possible. Count the days, use a calender, observe changes, mood swings, and the favourite: levels of horniness. Once you're sure of these things to the last second, you take the cycle and apply it to yourself. You always leave a week after the period just in case you're egg is released early, you always leave a week after that in case your egg lives a little longer. There is always only a period of seven days which you can only have unprotected sex, which is why this is often rarely used or used withother methods. It is based on general 'ifs' but again if you do all the period math correctly, nothing should go wrong since margins of error is always added and the body never does things randomly. Those who use the cycle often find that if something during the month makes them sick, or throws off their numbers by even a day, to be safe, don't have sex that month.

Yes, having a barrier like a condom reduces the sensation. Might I say, a majorly moronic reason to risk your health. If my best friend tries to tell me that I just might kick her.

Well it doesn't for me. It's not exactly like having a balloon stuck up - (will not finish sentence)

Meg's friends seem to be taking the catholic approach to contraception, something thats preached alot by catholic schools which to my mind is indoctrination.

Some states its legal if you are 16 and your partner is under the age of 24. Older than that its considered rape.
I heard that somewhere.

Statutory rape.
Not the same as rape.
Rape is when you don't have their consent.

And if they are under a certain age, legally their consent is worthless so you didn't have it to begin with, it isn't theirs to give. Which is why it's statutory rape.

so basically kids under 16 are not able to make any decisions for themselves? i find that offensive, im 14 and perfectly capable of making my own choices, thanks. personally i think the legal age is a good thing but in some places its too high (like England). Adults don't really understand how intelligent we teenagers actually are, so they dont give us the legal right to an opinion, or to give consent.

I don't make this a wide general observation of 14 years old...wait, no yes I do. Because I think the 14 year olds who are mature will agree with me.

The similarity between an adult and a teenager is physically they are nearly at the same level. Hormonaly they are too.(depending on when you hit puberty) But mentally a teenager is not ready to comprehend the full extent of what a sexual relationship is, they are unprepared to deal with the emotional side and that is just one of the reasons there is an age of consent the other is it is there for your protection.

If you try telling me that it's just as easy to manipulate a 25 year old women into bed as a 14 year old teenager then you are mistaken, sex can be used as a tool for peer pressure and pain and teens are more likely to succumb to it. Now on the off chance you are one of the teens who do understand the emotional side and the aspects it includes then you would also be mature enough to know that it's best to wait.

The other reason for the legal sex age is that it protects children against peadophilia, sometimes it can seem weird to stop a 20 year old dating a 17 year old, but mostly if both party's seem mature the law looks the other way. But peodophiles can be any age and if they are younger and there was no consent age they would use that to there advantage.

I completely agree with your post. ~~

And if you are as mature and capable as you think, then look for someone in your age or wait some time.
