After two albums of fairly standard-issue metalcore, A7X shed their emo and screamo trappings in favor of a style centered around anthemic choruses, harmony guitar solos, and actual singing, as well as mucho tattoos, muscles, firearms, coke and strippers. The result was City of Evil, an album that is equal parts Iron Maiden gallop, Guns N' Roses attitude and Euro power-metal bombast. And say what you want about the names, but Zacky Vengeance and Synyster Gates are two of modern metal's most ferocious shredders.
