| The Bears Are Coming Basket Case Age: 34 Gender: Female Posts: 16757 | LYDON BLAMES HIMSELF FOR VICIOUS Former SEX PISTOLS frontman JOHN LYDON blames himself for the problems leading up to the death of band member SID VICIOUS, because he had no chance to overcome his drug addiction. Lydon, AKA JOHNNY ROTTEN, fears the pressure of being in the band prevented Vicious, real name JOHN SIMON RITCHIE-BEVERLY, from facing up to the heroin habit which killed him in 1979 at the tender age of 21. Lydon says, "Sid was a great bloke, a barrel-load of laughs. But the cottage industry of punk has turned him into a humourless drug monster, which wasn't right. "He didn't get the opportunity to get out of that drug problem. And taking him into the band at that point was a horrible pressure; I didn't notice it, I thought it was all right but I was lumbering him. It was my fault. "That's how I feel about that. Why is it that the things we do have 20,000 reasons behind them? "You have to be honest with yourself. I ain't no saint." LYDON BLASTS LATE CLASH ROCKER JOHN LYDON has slammed late punk contemporary JOE STRUMMER as a hypocrite for preaching a socialism while living a posh lifestyle. The SEX PISTOLS icon - also known as JOHNNY ROTTEN - claims THE CLASH star Strummer used his endorsement of a concert series organised by anarchist group CLASS WAR to feed his ego. He says, "Joe Strummer, God bless him, he's gone and he shall be missed. But how dare he preach class war with an organisation like that (the late '80s Rock Against the Rich movement). "Living in a huge house in Holland Park (west London). Every photo opportunity to be seen on a bus in his leather jacket and then he went back to a palace. You're not getting it quite right there! That's where his image mattered more to him than the reality. He was trying to con us. In a nice way and for the right reasons but once you start lying, it carries on and on and on." LYDON SLAMS GELDOF OVER LIVE 8 LIES JOHN LYDON is furious with SIR BOB GELDOF for using the SEX PISTOLS to promote Live 8 without his permission. The band was rumoured to be reuniting for the gig, but Lydon accuses Geldof of fabricating the rumours to boost interest in the event, without ever consulting him about playing. He says, "The way Bob Geldof used the Sex Pistols to pontificate his Live 8 message! He did not speak to us. He implicated us as being part of that Live 8 thing and we weren't even asked. "So he's using our name to sell his message, but he didn't have the decency to phone me and ask. "So he's a c**t." ROTTEN: 'GREEN DAY ARE PLONK' SEX PISTOLS frontman JOHN LYDON has lashed out at rockers GREEN DAY, accusing them of stealing the term 'punk'. The singer - who performed as JOHNNY ROTTEN - claims the American band has reduced a political movement into a simple musical style. He says, "Don't try and tell me Green Day are punk. They're not, they're plonk and they're bandwagoning on something they didn't come up with themselves. I think they are phony." Referring to his band's battle with the police and censors during its heyday, Lydon adds, "The government's against you, the police are on you. "So there we are fending off all that and it p**ses me off that years later a w**k outfit like Green Day hop in and nick all that and attach it to themselves. "They didn't earn their wings to do that and if they were true punk they wouldn't look anything like they do." MATLOCK DEFENDS GREEN DAY Former SEX PISTOL GLEN MATLOCK has stuck up for punk proteges GREEN DAY, after his ex-bandmate JOHN LYDON dubbed them "a w**k outfit". Lydon - also known as JOHNNY ROTTEN - claimed the band had stolen the term punk and reduced a political movement into a simple musical style. But Matlock insists the most important thing is they entertain. The bassist says, "I think they are just doing what bands do. When Green Day first came out I thought it was kind of funny that there was this Californian band doing this very English sound.
