I have a little 15-watt Fender practice amp. Cheese And as far as what I want to play...well, usually in the course of one sitting I'll play the Sex Pistols or Clash, Pearl Jam, the White Stripes, and make an attempt at Sweet Child O' Mine. So, I dunno, I wouldn't want a guitar with a really heavy, metal sort of sound or anything, but not really bright and poppy either...somewhere between grunge and punk and blues? Dno haha, it's no wonder I can't decide on guitars and amps.

well if i had to suggest a pretty sick amp, it would be this one:

http://line6.com/spideriii/75.html

it has some pretty sick inbuilt amp modeling, and the sound from the mesa/boogie dual rectifier is right on. the model of the fender twin is pretty good also. Also has some pretty nice inbuilt effects that let you mess with them on top of any analog pedal effects. There's a smaller, cheaper version but the 75 watt is where you start getting the extra models and effects. It's about $300. Great sound for a non-tube amp.

As for guitars, well, that's a personal preference thing, since you can drastically modify the sound by modifying various things on the guitar. You can't go wrong, really, with a LP standard or studio, or, if you don't want to pay the gibson price (don't blame you, they're radically overpriced), there are a jillion well made copies out there.

Cool, thanks, I looked at the Line 6 and I'll keep it in mind. =] My dad just explained to me the difference between a tube and non-tube, I feel so enlightened. And I've played a LP standard before and I do like it, and there's really no discernible difference between the Gibson and the Epiphone that's half the price, so I've been looking at that sort of thing too.

nah, the epiphone is made in the same place. it comes down to brand elitism and some materials differences.

The Fool On The Hill:
Rando Commando:
He must have amazing balance.
I couldn't play guitar and stand on one foot Cheese
But then again I'm not one to multi-task very well

Hey! Long time no see! Smile

He's probably doing that little foot stomping he does all the time. During songs like All My Life or Stacked Actors or I don't know. lmfao. I'm always amused by watching Dave's guitar playing because he's NEVER still. It's the drummer in him because you see he's always stomping or swaying or banging his head to the drum beat.

Haha yeah I have horrible balance too. I'm always tripping or stumbling or teetering when I walk. Down I walk like a duck apparently lmfao. But my dad does the same thing.

haha I bet it's like a duck with very good balance Laughing

I have an Epiphone Les Paul Jr. and I've played the Gibson LP Jrs. and I think there's a big difference in feel and sound. I prefer the Gibson, that's why I'm saving my money to get one.

is the LP jr a 3/4 scale guitar? or is it full sized? I'm looking for a 3/4 scale that's a really nice guitar, because my hands are so small, but I want a serious guitar.

I honestly think they're the same size, Jr's are just simpler and less expensive. They're lighter weight too, and the neck might be slightly narrower. I have really small hands, and I'm OK playing both the LP's and the LP Jrs. though I prefer the Jrs. cause they're lighter, simpler, and I like the sound of them.

the Jrs have a single pickup, right? I think that might annoy me.

I might pick up a mini strat copy just to see. I seem to be accumulating guitars at an incredible rate right now!

Color Me Impressed:
wonderwall:
HAHAHA dave is rediculous- he got annoyed and changed the words to "Big Me" to "I wanna fucking puke":

Dave: *burps* (crowd cheers) Thanks very much, that's our next single, called "I wanna fucking puke." This song's called I wanna fucking puke.

When I talk about it
carries on
reasons only knew
when I talk a bout it
aries or I'm gonna fucking puke
it's so fucking hot in here
i think i might puke
it's probably a hundred and thirty
that's enough to make me puke.
well I talked about it
put it on
then I fuckin puked
but it's you, i puked onto
when i talk about it
carries on
reasons only knew
when i talk about it
aries or i'm gonna fucking puke
wouldn't you like to puke?
it might make you feel better
puking up on the floor
make it way more wetter
well i talked about it
put it on
never was it true
but it's you i puked onto.

if he ad libbed that, i swear to god, that's the most genius thing I've ever heard.
lmfao lmfao That was amazing.

lmfao lmfao lmfao

The last line made my day

"but it's you... i puked onto" lmfao lmfao

Oh my all this geetar talk.

I'm into the bluesy sound without the blues music. You know what I mean? I loveee the rich tones and higher gain sounds. Put it this way... Big Me sounds delicious to me becaus of the lack of treble.

My guitar teacher recommended the Line 6 amp to me. but then I went to ask the people in the Foo thread and they were appalled and siad that Line 6 is the last place to go. It's got all the pretty buttons and whatnot but it's digital and meh. I want a tube amp. I love the sound of tube amps. My little Fender amp doesn't have the sweet classic rock/bluesy sound I love.

Yeah, but I actually like just having one pickup. More than one just confuses and annoys me.

I like a full, but not bluesy sound. I really love the sound of a Les Paul w/out effects through a Marshall. I'm not big on effects unless if I'm tryin to get someone else's sound.

As for Line 6's, I hate them with a burning passion, amen.

I like the line 6. The people on the foo board have a thing for Orange and I have a really nice orange amp but sometimes it's nice to just have one amp with some reasonable effects to dick around on. Changing my effects going from the vox to the orange to get a sound I like is a pain in the ass if I just want to try a new song or mess around.

Personally, I hate most marshall sound, with a few exceptions, so to each their own I guess.

I should add that I tend to like dirty, watery guitar sounds, so a good natural overdrive is important to me (hence the vox ac30) but for just messing around or trying a new sound without buying an amp to drive it the line 6 is a pretty good buy.

I have the same Vox as you, and it has a lot of effects in it. Or at least enough for me. I'm not too big on the effects. I tried a Line 6 when I went amp shopping about a month ago and it just didn't have the punch I wanted, which the Vox and the Marshall both had.

well I run a pedalboard through the Vox with a bunch of effects I built and modified myself (except for a few generic ones, a Boss digital delay, dunlop wah, and a tuner) so when I want to try something new the line 6 is nice, just to try a riff with a chorus or a delay without rearranging my pedalboard. The orange is what I use to mess around with the most, actually, it's a really nice amp. But the line 6 is what I leave in my car so when I show up at parties I have something to play on.

Is it the best amp ever? no. But they're affordable, a big step up from a fender practice amp, and they're pretty multipurpose. a good stepping stone, if you will.

Hahah yeah. That Sideburns guy is obsessed with the TT. he's really nice though. He may seem like an asshole at first and I was scared of him but we started talking to eachother over PMs on the board and he's really sweet.

he recommended the TT to me but I went to the store that had it and they were sold out and only had the 2X12 cab or something. A little massive ha. But I already had my eyes on the Peavey anyways the first time I tried it I loved it. I tried the Vox and didn't like it. It didn't have the higher gain I liked.

You play at parties? awesome. Gah. You have to tell me all about UVM. I've never been there but I feel like it's going to be the one for me just because it seems like people are laid back and just big hippies and potheads. And plus Burlington is gorgeous.

haha I don't play WELL at parties, and that was more of a high school thing-- more of a "oh shit you play guitar? play something" with groups of friends...especially when my boyfriend at the time was around.

Now I mostly just annoy my housemates!

Anything you want to know about UVM I'll dish on...there's actually a really defined split of people here, and it's not really what you'd think...but I have fun all the same.

Then, of course, there's the naked bike ride...college is so rediculously fun, the only time you can do the stupidest shit in the world (and i could tell you STORIES, man) and get away with it unscathed Very Happy Very Happy
