Life's too short to deal with kids like that asshole. When you know what you like, it's just stupid to be bothered by someone else's opinion, even if it's completely alien to your opinion. Good to hear that you're not minding him. Yesterday I got a magazine and opened it to a random page- there was Mick. I flipped the tv on to VH1-there was Joe. Listened to the radio-there was the Clash. Anyone who thinks that the Clash's music has lost all its meaning and that they are a thing of the past must walk around with their eyes shut. No wonder they're so naive. The Clash's music means as much as ever because no one's fixed the problems that The Clash addressed in their songs. The most important thing that people need to realize is that no matter how old a person is, no matter how much their looks have changed, they're STILL THE SAME PERSON on the inside. They still hold the same opinions, they still stand by what they've said in the past, and they still have the SAME mindset, and that's not going to change. May I quote John Lydon on this one?

"The people who slag you off do so because they have little knowledge of you. If you confront them and give them that knowledge, things will be different. That's the whole point of living! That way everyone can learn off each other and enjoy."

I think that quote kinda sums up what I'm trying to say.
Exactly! I have shown some people pics of Clash now and they were like, but they are old and ugly how can you like them? You answered that question. Looks dont matter

It's what's on the inside that makes a difference in the world. No one ever changed the world by only looking pretty. When people know what they want and have the courage to do something about it, that's when things happen and that's when heroes are made. Not when people look nice. People heard the Clash on the radio and listened to what they were saying, and people did hear their statement and push for a change. No one's ever started a revolution or changed anyone's mind by being simply good looking. It's what's coming out of the head more than what the face looks like, to me.

For example, I wanted to go to a concert from and old band (70's) and people kept telling me, "If you go it's going to be you and loads of old people who actually liked the band back in the 70's" and I kept telling them "Well if those old people and me support the band's statement and like the band for the same reason, why is age a big deal?" Something like rebellion, which was a theme in the Clash's music, is ageless and timeless. There will always be kids who want that and there will always be older people who want that. When it comes to something like that, age becomes just a number because kids and older people are all on the same wavelength. There's no separation in mindset, so why should anything else change?

But looks are the only improtant thing to most of the kids this days. Looks never changed the world, but thats is going to happen one day. Kids have heroes cause of their looks or the way they dance, not because they rebel or change anything.

Really? People usually dont agree with me on anything...but then again, the people that surround me are stupid Rolling Eyes Hmmm...lemme se... Im acctually happy cause one girl said that Joe looks very pretty and that he looks happy Very Happy So I hugged her. Not really cause she likes Joe but because of the way she discribed him perfectly. I got Mojo`s book Punk: The whole story so I am on that right now. I bought it on a book fair today and it has a lot Clash stuff and so many Sex Pistols stuff. I will try to scan it, but Im not sure if it will work because of the size. The pictures are beautiful and I just finished with the begining of the Sex Pistols and about Rotten`s childhood. Poor man Sad Im gonna complain about the lack of Clash t-shirts in my town, but nobody can really help me that

Try shopping online or on ebay or something for shirts. I've spent many hours in Borders reading that book. I'm hoping to ask for it for Christmas. And yeah, he had a tough childhood what with his menigitis and the like. If you like that book, check out his autobiography. It's well worth the read. I agree- not a lot of people in my area can relate to me because they don't know anything about punk, and it's rare to actually find someone who knows who Johnny Rotten is. So it's great to know that I'm not all alone.

Acctually, I dont even listen to the Sex Pistols Laughing But I like to know a lot of stuff about music, so whenever I find something interesting I read about it and learn more. I bought that book and I dont listen to all of the bands, but I read it all because Im interested. And yeah, all of the bands I like are punk so Im not gonna turn up and know nothing about the music I like even if dont listen to some bands at all. I like tobe the smartes when it comes to music and know a lot of stuff about all genres of music so I can talk to people and not feel dumb. By researching, reading and talking to people I learn more. So I know stuff about Rotten.

Yeah well you at least know the Pistols exist, which is better than I get 'round here. Yeah I agree with what you're saying. The whole scene kind of fascinates me even if I don't like some of the groups. I like to know about things like that, and when I find something that I don't understand I look it up or find someone who can explain.

True. I remeber when we were doing some new words in englisdh class conected to music, books and films and we had to conect some words with those terms and this girl asked me what r-e-g-g-a-e is (she couldnt even pronounce it). I was like its a genre of music, you know, Bob Marley and stuff and she was like even more confused.Im not saying you need to know the whole biography of every band in the world, but you should at least know the basic of some more important.

Yeah I know what you mean completely. It's good just to have some general knowledge.

I went to the Joe Strummer mural in the East Village today. I'm sure you've all seen too many pictures, but here's one that I took of it.
