i was home-schooled for 2 years, now im back, my social skills are even worse than before. (i have another thing that affects it but i wont bore u with the details). im even more shy, i find it hard 2 talk 2 people, and im finding lessons in a class really hard, i was home schooled because of bullying. people said it would be good for ,me, it was a releif i wasnt so highly strung or stressed, im not sure if its a good thing or a bad thing.......what do you think, and if you have kids would you let them be home schooled?

Its a bad thing, in my opinion. Whilst you stay sat at home, in a familiar and comforting environment, you aren't getting a taste of the real world. Okay, so you avoid all the bitchy comments, bullying, etc,. but being wrapped up in a bubble doesn't really help in the long run.

I'd rather be home schooled, seeing as I hate everyone at school

It could be good...it could be bad.
To me, I think if your homeschooled you do lack social skills, might make it hard to get a job OR even go through college. Ive heard that it puts you way back education wise.

well, IDEALLY public schools improve social skills, BUT ive been going to public schools basically all my life, and it hasnt helped one bit. my social skills are crap. but they'd probably be worse if id been home schooled.
and thats my indecision for today.

Meh.

I'd rather have my future kids be teached by a professional scholar. You can't just teach someone by the books...

I think home schooling is bad. Why? Because kids who are home
schooled for a long time can lack the social skills they'll need one day.
They might not know how to act around other people. When you apply for
a job they may not hire you because you lack the social skills needed for some jobs. So that's why I think that.

going to school is good for you. it forces you to deal with people, puts you into social situations you're not always comfortable with. it makes you a stronger, better, smarter person.

I am well above average, but i don't think home-schooling would help at all. I push myself at school because i have the support. Lets also bear in mind that my school is just... distinctly normal. Pretty bad behaviour sometimes, but normal. You need to go to school. Its like... a right of passage. School is hardly the real world, but if you can't hack it there, then you're not going to be able to in the future. Throughout life you have to be with people completely different to yourself. Thats what makes it interesting.

However, at school they put you up on a peadastool aswell... so in that respect nothing improves the aspect of your life till you're out there on your own.

Maybe a stupid question, and i'm not meaning to be offensive, but do home-schooled kids have many friends at all? and how do they make them? clubs i guess. At school there'll be at least one person you have common grounds with.

And i don't think anyones in a position to judge their own social skills yet... Go easy on yourselves.

I don't really think it's a good idea because it prevents people from developing the social skills they need in life...however, I can see why some people would want it, if they were being bullied or something. I think if that happened, though, they should change schools rather than just not going.

I think home-schooling is a bit stupid really. I mean if you're constantly bullied and your friends don't go to your school, then fair enough, but apart from taht I see no reason for it. You'll be a social outcast.

I am home schooled.
But i agree with it. Something happened to me [dont ask me what, i dont even know] and i was unable to go back to school. No, it wasn't because of bullying. And i was fine in my classes.
But i have a wonderful tutor, and she explains things carefully and she's patient with me if i get anything wrong. Yes, i am terribly shy, and i really hate the outside, but home schooling is helping me.

I don't think you can really say your opinion on it if you haven't actually had home schooling..

I disagree...I too am painfully shy and find socialising with others difficult. But being in the school environment, mixing with thousands of pupils (most of whom hate me), dealing with demanding teachers who have ridiculous standards and being spat at in the corridors (in the case of today) only makes me stronger.

How will you ever deal with the world if you don't go out and face it head on?. Homeschooling hardly gives you good life experience. How do you plan on coping when you enter the workplace?.
