| January 28th, 2006 at 08:32pm I want to learn the drums and i was looking at drum sticks online and i noticed things like:
Natural Hickory Drumsticks 5A Wood
Natural Hickory Drumsticks 5B Wood
6A Wood Tip Hickory Drum Sticks
Natural Hickory Drumsticks 2B Nylon
i would like to know what purpose does the 5B, 5A, 6A, etc serve. does a higher number/letter make the sticks better than other sticks? or does it not matter?
If this is a duplicate I'm sorry but i searched and i checked a couple of the pages and i did not see anything |

But I don't play drums |

Age: - Gender: - Posts: 63 | January 29th, 2006 at 05:12am I think it has something to do with the size/thickness of the drumstick. You should buy a few and see which ones are better for you, or easier to use and control.
I prefer the thicker and heavier ones |

If you want more of that sexy chink sound use 5a nylon tips....but everything else depends on the sound you want

Age: - Gender: Female Posts: 5246 | January 31st, 2006 at 08:24pm it's the thickness of the sticks and how long it is (man that sounds odd lol). drummers don't really pay attention to that cuz it's the feel. i think generally, drummers play with B sticks. |

Age: - Gender: - Posts: 77 | February 2nd, 2006 at 06:50pm some types of wood get worn out easier than others, i dont play drums myself but my brother plays in a heavy metal band and some sticks he goes through really quickly, and others last a long time. you should go to like a guitar center and ask the people there what they know |

Age: - Gender: - Posts: 4 | February 20th, 2006 at 04:09am It's to do with the thickness, length and weight of the stick. I own a pare of 7As and there too small for me and I always drop them so next time im in Melbourne i'm going to buy a pair of 5As. Also the tip of the stick affects the sound example a nylon tip on a ride cymbal will give you more of a pingy noise and will be more louder wile a wood tip will be softer and quiter. |

Age: - Gender: - Posts: 733 | February 20th, 2006 at 02:05pm yer beginners start with 5A sticks, as they're generally the most universal ones. I think most drummers tend to stick with 5A'a, but as has been said, it all depends on the feel of them, and it doesn't take long to adjust to a new size. |
