Do You Think Praying Works?

i know many people dont like to discuss whether they pray or not because it can be a private issue. But i pray and i'm not embarrased to say i talk to God. So if you pray [or even if your dont] do you think praying works, like does God [or whoever you're praying to] hear your prayers?

If you want something enough, anything can work. I think this issue all comes down to how strongly you believe in something. I don't pray as such, but I believe that it does have a great deal of benefits.

Again, if I looked at it from a Christian point of view, I would say yes, because I would truely believe that it works and that God IS listening, but if my prayer didn't work, it was only because God thought that it wasn't going to work in the greater scale of life..if that made sense.

There is no proof that these work, for example, my Seeker Ceremony which is basically just asking for the guidance of the elements and the Gods and Goddesses. I didn't KNOW whether that worked. But I FELT that it did, and I truely BELIEVE that it did.

thats a good point, if God didnt think it was truly right for you to grant you what you prayed for than he wouldnt give it to you, kinda like he always knows whats best for you, that why he will allow your prayer to be answered or not, or how quickly he answers you. And yes, sometimes you get that feeling that whoever you prayed to has heard you, thats a great feeling

I see it as more of a placebo.

It doesn't do anything on it's own. I don't believe in higher beings that we can communicate with through prayer. But people do it and they believe it works, and it's just like when someone takes a pill that they think will make them better, even though medically the pill does absolutely nothing, their faith in it will contribute to the favorable outcome.

I dont believe it works. but then again i dont believe in God so why would a higher authority want to answer my prayers?

I do Pray sometimes pray to God and sometimes my prayers are answered and sometimes not.

bad stuff has been happening at every point of history. Maybe it's just the fact that science has proved so much and people dont believe in a God as such so they dont bless the creation as much as they used to.

Exactly. When I'm worried or scared or upset I deal with it in a different way to others. Some people deal with it by praying. Different strokes for different folks, I say. Whatever helps you the most.

I think prayer is good if you want to ask for help in achieving something but if you're just gonna pray to your God and ask him to make your life perfect then you're not gonna get anywhere. You need to get off your arse and try to achieve your dreams etc not just expect a superior being to do it for you.

exactly...i think people should only pray for (or wish for) things that would truly make thier life better..(not getting a certain job or losing 20lbs) things like that can be acheived by yourself, God can guide you but he cant do it for you
