  | February 9th, 2006 at 04:52am I know the rules of the stories say that you have to use spell-check and stuff, but I don't they're being strict enough. A lot of the stories have really bad grammar and sometimes no punctuation. Its like "Wow, that character can say a lot in one breath with stopping a sentence or pausing in the middle." A lot of the stories have really good story lines, but you feel like you'd rather die than try and figure out the sentences.
Also, some of the stories with awesome storylines have really bad writers. I'm not that great of a writer myself, but these people are so awful at putting in descriptions or putting a link between one paragraph and the next. but then, how would they improve if they never practice. but then again, how will they improve if people never put contructive critisicm in their comments. just "its awesome." or "cool." some writers need no critisicm (like the writer of Violence of the Summer.) but others need a lot.
anyone agree with me, or am i just a lone weirdo? |

Stop being so lazy? Stop being so lazy because they spend a good portion of their week doing a voluntary job which none of you others are good enough to do? Stop being so lazy because they have to get through hundreds of stories a week? Stop being so lazy because they have their own lives? Jesus Christ, you people are so ungrateful, yeah, the story editors aren't perfect but I can assure you, some of that stuff in the little editing bit does make you very close to suicide. Why don't you try helping out and quit your whining? It's all very well to say oh yeah, the editors are being lazty, but hey, at least they're getting off their asses and helping with the running of this site. And the comment about some writers are too crappy to even be considered, well that's your opinion. How would it be if we stopped one of your stories because we thought it was too crappy to be considered?

As a point of information, I believe all story editors do a good job (not just the new ones). Also, I'd like to put forward a question; what would you rather have?
An awfully punctuated story with no capital letters etc, but a brilliant plot?
Or a perfectly punctuated stroy with a bland and dull synopsis?
I, as a reader, would prefer the former. We sometimes loose sight of what is really important, don't we? |

Say, if you've been doing it for a year or something, you're bound to get a bit bored of it, and not try as hard as someone who is fairly new to the job and eager to work hard. I've been doing it for almost a month and a half. That's plenty amount of time to get bored of it. I'm not about to get bored of it, because writing and such is a very important part of my life. |

A month and a half is not much...I have relatives who have been doing the same job for 60 years.
Trust me. I'll come back to you next February (if you haven't left GSB by then). I'll write a memo or something to remind me...and I'm going to ask you if you're still as enthusiastic, eager and ready to work as you were on your first day of editing.

See, there will come a time when things will change, for you. It would be silly to think you'll always be as passionate about a certain subject. So yeah, I hope you do become an author (even though that's not how it happens in the real world), but the fact of the matter is; none of the story editors have to try harder, because they all put a lot of effort in. So this is really a case-closed. |

Of course I'd rather the one with no puntuaction and a good story line, both, as a reader and as an editor, because that story I could fix and make it look good... Isn't it a waste to have a well thought story, with an awesome story line with tons of errors, a terrible puntuation and lack of paragraphing? I'm not saying the stories should be perfect, I'm just saying that the shouldn't be so fucked up. There are stories that aren't even being touched by the editors I once found a story POSTED on the site that had this: [code:1][i] [/i][/code] For italics instead of this: <i> </i>.
I'd post a link to it if it wasn't because I edited that as soon as I read that, anyways, the story was The Innocent Can't Never Last, by Spike. |

My, my, Mademoiselle. You do have a high opinion of yourself. I mean, I'd love to say I had the confidence to tell you all what a fantastically talented young writer I am, what a great career in journalism I will have when I'm older, and how brilliant I am in general.
But the fact is, well, there is no fact. There is only my opinion. To conclude, only the foolish may attempt predict the future. To assume that in this unplanned, unwritten future, there will be no change, no break, no difference, is most naive. I do like to get philosphical once in a while, don't you?  |
