who?

It would surely not kill you to click the link I provided above.

Or go to Google and search. Or go to Wikipedia.

See, if there's something I don't understand, I research before posting in a thread. Which makes me seem a lot less ignorant. Cool

well i did and i made my mind up on the guy, or its partially made up anyway.

It's SO sad that the CAPITALISTS, like Hot Topic, makes LOADS of money on him. I mean, he deserves better than that!

Someone else who understands the irony of Guevara's image being sold through the capitalist free market which he was so against.

I expect many people on here to have no idea of the man behind the montage. I expect some 'supporters' who think they have an idea. I expect very few die-hard Che fans. I expect a strong proportion of people here to have a strong hatred for Guevara. We shall see.

Capitalists always do the same thing...they turn icons and ideologies into fashion...

Nah, that's just a parody. Nothing to be embarrased about. It's quite humorous.

Well I can't say that I know a lot about him. But from what I know, I can see how some people see him as such a hero and idolize him. Although I for one don't but whatever. The fact that in today's youth that so many people wear shirts, and other things with his face on him without even knowing his name pisses me off. Its that blind following that really annoys me, and then when you ask them why they are wearing it they say "because he's cool" with nothing to back up that comment.

Oh and please don't get mad if I'm totally wrong about this... but didn't he want to blow up North America? I heard that somewhere before. Rolling Eyes

I don't believe he did.

Where did you hear that?

Yeahh sorry about that, that is not totally true. It was my brother who I thought I heard saying that. But then I just asked him about it and he said that Che Guevara had said that if he would have been in charge of the nukes placed in Cuba in 1962, that he would have launched them at the United States.

That is a mis quotation.

Guevara had no power over the missiles; indeed, they were not under Cuban control. Neither he; nor Cuba had the power to launch them. Although I have read that he stated if the missiles had been under the thumb of the Cubans, Cuba would have fired them.

Yeah, so there is always the "if" factor in it. And well thankfully they weren't then I guess.

i do know some things about him. but not much. i heard a radio programe about him. it was a comedy, but informative nonetheless. i completely agree that the image is used as just a picture of rebellion, while many of these people havent got a clue about the man or what he did.

Che Guavera is no longer a hero or a villan. He is a pop culture icon, immortalized by the 60's.

By the way, did anyone catch the Che Guavera pop art exhibition in the Victoria and Albert Museum in London this summer? Absolutely fab. Worth all, like three pounds. It really was an amazing exhibition. I left speechless.

Yeah...I don't know who he is but I've heard he's a communist of some sort. The very first time I heard anything about him or saw him was not through the pictures but through maddox.xmission.com

Look at the picture up in the corner. It's a picture of the author of the website, Maddox aka George Ozini-something photshopped by him to look like Mistah Che. In his FAQ there is this:

HEY MADCOX ARE YOU A SOCIALIST? WHAT'S WITH THE CHE PICTURE?

No, I'm not a socialist/marxist/communist. I'm using the Che picture because I think it's a good parody of a recognizable icon (even though most people who read this site don't realize the parody, don't ask questions and don't know who he was), and because most people consider him "Che the revolutionary," not "Che the pinko."

K, I'm off to Wikipedia.

I'm tired of people who transform political figures in brands.
Che Guevara is now like Bush(except bush is still living ...) everyone has shirts, badgers and all that but no one of these people really knows what he has done in Cuba and all that. Rolling Eyes

That's mainly to due with the fact that he was outside of our generation. I mean, the 50's swingers knew about him, the difference is, they iconosized the particular photo taken by I forget his name. Nowadays, people know about Bush, which is why they wear shirt and slogans for or against him as a fashion statement.

One of the girls in school fell in love with him and wanted his t-shirt badly so I asked her why does she want it, like is she impressed by him or something and she said that he was hot. And I was like, well you are stupid , you dont know what he did [and even if she did I know she wouldnt be impressed by it] you just like him for some stupid reason. I hate when people do that, I hate what they with the icon of Che Guevara. I dont have his t-shirt cause I dont know that much about him and if I will tend to like him I will by myself one.

And Meg, thanks for the link.

I'm still reading through the Wiki stuff. So...he worked with Senor Castro, for a while right? How was he allowed to leave? I'm really politcally ignorant, but my friend told me that when he first took over, if you tried to leave Castro after getting a job with him, he shot you...

Unless I'm very much mistaken, Che is on the left and Fidel is the one "hitlering" (or he could have just been waving... one picture doesn't really tell the full story, y'know?)
