The last time we got involved in a civil war was Vietnam, I believe.

...Need I really elaborate?

Of course, the conditions are different, but it'd still be crazy difficult. Plus, we've done enough and overstepped our boundaries to begin with. If they're going to overthrow the new government we've set up, all power to them. We can't stop them...or we shouldn't, anyway.

they're all going to go and kill each other anyway even if the US send troops out there or not.

I don't think that there's a need to send more troops to Iraq. We've got a good many there already. I think it boils down to whether or not we should leave the troops there longer in order to fight in a civil war. To me, the answer is no.

It's getting to that point, yes. We stand at the brink of a third world war. Before us, there are two paths. Both end in sufffering and death. We must choose one.
So. Do we stay in Iraq, get involved, do our part and fight a world war for what we will later call the "greater good," or do we walk away, and relive WWII and bear the guilt of doing nothing for what we will say was the "greater good?"

if anouther world war did happen it would be over before we knew it, all it takes is a press of a button.

The pressing of a button is not a valid answer. It's an option, but not an answer.
I mean...is it really worth killing an entire planet just to make a point? Who are we making a point to when everyone's dead or dying?

We're looking at an event at least ten years in the future (I hope).
i may not have a lot of faith in humanity, but there's no way that we can do that.

Yes, Magne, all it WILL take is the press of a button. But I'm not really certain I want that button to be pressed. I'd like, in fact, for that button to be destroyed. Because giant nulear holocausts are not my idea of a "solution."

Call me an idealist, but I live for the day when war is not seen as a means to an end, but, as the saying goes, hell.

And can't we let them come home yet? If we're going to interfere everywhere there's unrest, then we'll be in even deeper than we are now.

i would like that button to be destroyed aswell but we all know that the leaders of countrys are on power trips. Its a case of destroy or be destroyed.

Well. I don't know. I think we should try to do everything we can to stop it but sometimes that's just staying out of the country's way.

I don't know. Bush is certainly on a power trip. Blair? Perhaps, but in a kid-sidekick sort of way. In general, though, I don't know if a lot of the world is really on a power trip. The last war that was started was by us. Not exactly the one before that, but that was al-Qaeda, not a country. I don't think we need to blow countries into bits with our ten-thousands of nukes because they might "get" us; that's paranoid.

Besides which, the whole "destroy or be destroyed" thing is too much like the Law of the Jungle for me. Sure, politics can be compared to a jungle, but we've got procedures we can go through. Once again, I always go for a "Can't We Can Work It Out?" over a "Happiness Is A Warm Bomb."

If a civil war starts in Iraq, I say the US gets the fuck out of there. It pretty clear that theres not going to be peace there for a long time, if ever. I just think it'd be a bad idea to get involved.

Confused

There is little point in protesting against a matter which is out of your hands. If a Civil war does break out, nothing will stop it.
