In the first part we have Franny's boyfriend waiting for her at the train station. They go get a bite to eat and Franny is behaving rather unusual, she talks about how much she hates the "ego" everywhere, etc etc, and how full of ego the world is.Then after a while, after a lot of talking she goes to the bathroom and starts crying and holds a small, tiny book. Then after more talking she faints, and that's how this part ends. The second part starts of with Zooey, that is actually Franny's brother, getting ready for work in the bathroom. He has a looooong chat with his mom in the bathroom, especially about Franny, who had stayed in her room, without eating anything, just being depressed. Afterwards he has a long talk with Franny, to convince her to get back to normal. We find out that the tiny book she was holding earlier is about a Russian pilgrim that went looking for someone to tell him how to pray incessantly(sp?) like the Bible says, and he has a short Prayer called the Jesus Prayer. Eventually Franny gets back on her feet. There are other characters mentioned as well, like Buddy their brother, who lives isolated somewhere and that sent a very long letter to Zooey, Seymour-the brother that commited suicide, and in whose memory(kinda) Franny decides not to give up acting.
I hope I made sence with the explaining.
