Hey everyone, I think that popular rock and punk bands today have gotten a bit softer in order to appeal to a larger crowd. Way back a few years ago, many members of the teen generation were scared to touch rock and metal and things of that sort. I liked the older versions of bands like Papa Roach, Slipknot, Staind, Rob Zombie, My Chemical Romance, to name a few. Their music was so much edgier and they seemed like they didn't give a shit. Now it's all becoming merged with pop songs and the teenie bopper generation. That's my opinion. I don't know if anyone else feels the same way.

I actually do agree to a certain extent. You can hear the difference in albums.

I think especially Jimmy Eat World's Static Prevails has a lot more edge and "spice" to it than Futures and Clarity.

this should really be in the other bands section, m'dear. i can kinda see what you mean but to an extent its the world around the music becoming more extreme and the music doesnt have as much of an impact.

Yeah, I see. Their music was harsh, the world got harsher. Maybe if their music gets softer, the world will get softer? LoL, I don't know. I can hope, can't I?

Oh, I didn't know where to post this, bc I'm new to the whole message board thing..... Embarassed

its okay, it was an easy mistake for you to make. its just that the music makes less of an impact on a society where things like that are commonplace. like how the bbc got hundreds of complaints because the sex pistols swore on live tv. now its just a handful.

Yes. Slipknot has gotten soft around the edges lately, with songs such as, Circle, and Vermillion Pt. 2, just to name some. I pefer the older albums, like Iowa and Slipknot (self titled), with songs like People = Shit, My Plague and Wait And Bleed.

It's okay to write songs like that, they seem to fit certain moods.

Yeah, I see what you mean.....for example, I participated in a poetry slam this weekend, and almost EVERYONE was talking about some political issue. Then I got up on stage and I did this totally random, confusing poem that nobody got. It made a big impact, because it differed from the norm of what everyone else was talking about. From that, I see your point.

EXCEPTION TO THE RULE
Slayer
at the moment they are writing a new album. one song is about 9/11 from the point of view of the terrorist. not in a sympathetic way, mind.

I agree with you but I think its just the swings and roundabouts of music.
For the moment guitar driven music is big and everyone wants to make money from it.
So they seem to make themselves more commercial to appeal to a wider audience.
Well thats what I think any way.
