As some of you may (or not) be aware, today just so happens to be the 17th anniversary of the Hillsborough disaster, where 96 football fans of Liverpool FC were crushed to death.
Lord Justice Taylor's official report stated; 'The real cause of the Hillsborough disaster [was] overcrowding, the main reason for the disaster was the failure of police control.', The Sun newspaper and Boris Johnson blamed the fans (Rolling Eyes), but who do you think was to blame?.

Me, personally, I blame the police control. Hillsborough is just one of those things that makes me feel upset or sick to think about, but if this topic isn't necessary then lock away...

Oh it was today. Sad
Yeah I've seen people doing silences for that a few times over the years.

No one had much control on anything them days though did they, they didn't even have seats did they?

Police control, they shouldn't of opended the ranks to let the fans in. I also blame poor ticketing offices.

Goodbye Forever:

No, they had terraces.
It was partially because of Hillsborough that they have all seater stadiums now.
Problem was, they had an inexperienced sergeant controling the Liverpool fans that day who let too many fans into a small space...

You can't say it was the fans fault though, if they let that many in saying they would be okay, then they should have been okay!

It wasn't the fans fault (note my eye rolling at the Sun and good ol' Boris for saying that)...
The stuff the sun published was quite frankly disgusting and even though I wasn't even alive at the time I doubt i'll ever buy it...

The Sun is a rag.
The Hillsborough disaster reminds me of the Stardust tragedy.
They are two thing that could have been easily avoided if people did their jobs properly.

Oh right.
My Parents never buy The Sun worst newspaper I think.
They can't just blame the fans because a few were idiots though.
You get idiots everywhere.

Hi. I 'support' SWFC, and my brother and cousin went to the match today. I also think it was lack of police control. I think they should have planned ahead a little more. I don't know everything about it, but I think if the police knew all those peole were going to go and there'd be chance of a disaster it was their job to at least try and do something about it. But like some of you have said, it was quite a while ago.
R.I.P. to all those people.

Well, I wouldn't know. I wasn't even aware of this disaster. How were they crushed?

Small space. Too many people squashed in together, they just couldn't breathe or move, they were dead standing up.

I don't expect people to have heard of the Hillsborough tragedy unless they're British/Irish...So I'm guessing you're not.

Sure is.
There's a momorial outside the ground. Everybody in my city [Sheffield, as it happens] knows about the tragedy.
There was a particular story my mum told me, about a father who took his two daughters. I think what happened was, he got separated from them, and he managed to get out but his daughters didn't. To think that that happened down the road from where I live is upsetting.

Boris Johnsons hair scares me. he sometimes says the wrong things at the wrong time and is known to be a sexist pig, but i have no quarrels with him.

The Sun is not the worst for plagarised stories or blatant lying campaigns, The Daily Mail takes home the grand prize for that anyday.

Anyho, I think it's a bit one sided if we put all the blam on the police force, yes to the majority i think poor planning on their part was the downfall, but according to reports the actions of the fans didn't help, and there was rioting after what happened which hindered ambulances being able to enter the grounds.
