iViva la Andrea!:

I just said I like Jeffree Star. I didn't say he wasn't overrated. Confused
Rolling Eyes And again, you not liking somebody doesn't make them "not a musician."
Also, how does having friends who are famous in some way make you "claw into anyone with a slight amount of fame?" It is possible that he just has friends who happen to be in the same business... most musicians and actors do. Wink

I think with Fall Out Boy it's more because of how people reacted to them when they first came out. With their second album people started acting like they were these musical gods who had been sent from the heavens to save us. They're kind of ignored now, but still. That's where I guess it comes from.
I don't know, I don't see it much. I know a bunch of people were saying after the VMAs that FOB should have won and Green Day didn't deserve it, which is utter bs 'cause even people who like or hate both bands can't deny that 21 Guns is a beautifully done video. Anyway. Off topic. Dno
No, the ability to be somewhat musically talented makes them a musician, J* has no talent at all. and lol he does not have friends in the business, he has ~scene bands~ that try and use him for fame, like he uses other people for fame.

On the subject of Fall Out Boy, hardly anyone had even heard of FOB before their 3rd album, not their second. However their second album IS a gift to the world sent from god Smiley

vanity whore:
"HEY PETE WENTZ IM REALLY HAPPY FOR YOU AND IM GONNA LET YOU FINISH BUT 21 GUNS IS THE BEST VIDEO OF ALL TIME"
lmao dude pwentz fangirls green day so hard, when all the fans got up on stage, pete wentz got up and stood next to billie joe and posted on his twitter about them after the show and i recall a few months ago he said he would do anything to tour with green day or something aha.

Went onstage when billy yelled "get onstage " the crowd. Look for me! I moshed
1:41 PM Sep 14th from UberTwitter

If u gotta lose one green day is the band to do it to. Honored to be even in the same sentence. Congrats."

and then also from his blog:
"i will forever be a nerd. wanna watch me geek out. green day was playing at the VMAs and billie asked people in the crowd to come on stage. the “d list celebrity” in me was like oh that looks cool ill stand and applaud. but the 14 year old dookie super fan in me was like this is your once in a lifetime chance to go and dance on stage. look for me up there at 3:56 - needless to say my security was not too happy. great performance! billie is an amazing frontman. i fan boyed out."

You mean like coming up with insane beats, performing extremely well live, and coming up with insanely catchy songs? Hm. Yeah. Not at all. Scene bands are still bands. Also, pretty sure Selena Gomez and Demi Lovato aren't scene. I also wouldn't consider Lady Gaga, Katy Perry, Pierce the Veil, Mariah Carey, Sing it Loud, The White Tie Affair, or Miley Cyrus scene. And I fail to see a problem with two people who are around the same age, have the same interests, have the same style, and have similar goals being friends. Would you mind telling me how you're so confident in knowing the motives behind other peoples friendships? Have you hung out with him? With any of his friends?

Honestly, though, it's disappointing how many people think that their opinion should be and is the end all be all of music. Not liking a type of music doesn't mean it's utter bullshit. Not liking a certain musician doesn't mean they have no talent. People are allowed to write and record things you don't like, they're allowed to write and record things I don't like. When it comes to music, practically everything is relative. If everyone considered the same things good and bad, nothing new would ever come out and the world would be extremely boring.

Insane beats that their producer or team of songwriters write? Insanely catchy songs written for them by other people? Performing extremely well live when they've used so much technology on their vocals on record that they sound sloppy and stretched live unless they mime?

Granted there's a few artists that do actually write their own stuff and put it to good use rather than just trying to do what the fans want over pushing pop forward musically (which is why I rather admire Lady Gaga incidentally).

I gave up reading after you started listing pop stars as 'scene'. I've no interest in what you have to say after that, no doubt it'll be typically boring.

Maybe j* stalked these people are the airport and took photos with them and then tried to pass of to his 'fans' that he is friends with people who are actually famous. (See my above post about saying that he claws to anyone who has any sort of fame).

LUCIFER IS COMING:

J* has no talent at all. and lol he does not have friends in the business, he has ~scene bands~ that try and use him for fame, like he uses other people for fame.

Rolling Eyes
Yes, if somebody you don't like has famous friends who don't look and act like that person, they must have been stalked and threatened into taking pictures with him. Considering some of the pictures and videos are from before some of his friends were famous, that seems unlikely. I doubt he saw Demi Lovato at a park one day and said "she'll be on Disney someday and be really famous, I'm gonna go attack her."
If a musician you liked began showing pictures of themselves with their famous friends, I'm willing to bet you wouldn't still assume that the only reason they tolerate each other is because they want fame, or that said musician stalked other people and forced them to laugh and smile for a picture. Seriously, where does that even come from??

Who were you attempting to quote there? Just curious. Because to act like you can read the minds of every single human being who listens to a particular person is even more vain and condescending then just saying that if you don't like somebody they're talentless. I've got just as much right to like Jeffree Star as you have to not like him, but if I started bashing you because you don't like him, everyone would have a bitchfit on me. People have every right to like or dislike something 100% regardless of your tastes and opinions.
Also, I like how you're presenting it as if his songs are intended to be deep, meaningful, artistic pieces of poetry that evoke deep emotions. The intention is to be obnoxious, obscene, and funny. He's not trying to compete with Billie Joe in songwriting ability here, obviously.

If you don't like somebody, guess what? Nobody is holding your head to speakers and forcing you to listen to them. There's no point in pretending you know their personal lives, there's even less point in bashing their fans because they like one musician you don't. You not liking somebody does not equate to them being talentless hacks. Smile

Wahey! Time for a subject change from that other dull as dishwater topic.

I wouldn't say they're over-rated at all. 3 excellent musicians playing excellent heavy music. Can't wait for this album to come out.

I used to think The Beatles were grossly overrated. and then I actually listened to them. it was actually seeing the Shea Stadium performance that got me interested in looking into more of their music.

Plus if anyone says that the Beatles were over rated on this thread again I might just track them down and remove their head from their body.
