Sorry if this is in the wrong place, you can always move it...

So U2 won VH1's "Nation's Favourite Lyric" poll with a line from their song One.

The lyric from song which featured on the 1991 album Achtung Baby was "One Life, With Each Other Sisters, Brothers".

The full top twenty can be viewed here:

The Nations Favourite Lyric Top 20

So do you agree with what is in the top 20?

Do you think there are glaring exceptions?

What is YOUR favourite lyric of all time?

Hmm.

I'd say my favorite lyric would be... nah. Too hard.

Claudio snachez makes the best lines though.

Get NIRVANA the fuck OFF that list........

.....agree with most of the rest......BUT would add....

Guns N' Roses - Estranged
Well I jumped into the river
Too many times to make it home
I'm out here on my own, and drifting all alone
If it doesn't show give it time
To read between the lines

Dream Theater - As I Am
To those who understand, I extend my hand
To the doubtful I demand, take me as I am

Pink Floyd - Shine On You Crazy Diamond
Remember when you were young, you shone like the sun
Shine on, you Crazy Diamond
Now there's a look in your eyes, like black holes in the sky
Shine on, you Crazy Diamond

Yeah I was a bit miffed at some of them. The Kaiser Cheifs aren't exactly the best lyrical band ever!!! Brilliantly catchy but not really brilliant enough to be on that list.

I agree with Shine On You Crazy Diamond being in there, or at least something other than the typical "we don't need no education" which seems to be the only song everyone knows by Pink Floyd.

My favourite lyric, if any of you care, is probably by Oasis:
Don't Look Back In Anger
Please don't put your life in the hands
Of a rock n roll band
They'll throw it all away

I just think its an incredibly personal and honest statement from Gallagher, and it is so true. I sing that line the loudest when I listen to Whats The Story Morning Glory.

Here's some.

Carve your name into my arm
Instead of stressed, I lie here charmed

(Placebo - Every You, Every Me)

Eyeholes in a paper bag
The greatest lay I ever had

(Placebo - Nancy Boy)

I would wish upon a star
But that star, it doesn't shine

(Blink 182 - Story of a Lonely Guy)

When you were here before
I couldn't look you in the eye
You're just like an angel
Your skin makes me cry

(Radiohead - Creep)

10 outta 10 for a race already run
Bleeding the world 'cause you can't figure out what's wrong

(Nine Black Alps - Unsatisfied)

So don't wake me if I'm dreaming...
(No Doubt - Hella Good)

Hello
I've waited here for you
Everlong

(Foo Fighters - Everlong)

Take this pink ribbon off my eyes
I'm exposed, and it's no big surprise

(No Doubt - Just A Girl)

I only smile in the dark
My only comfort is the night gone black

(Garbage - I'm Only Happy When It Rains)

I could go on...but that would take too long.
wake the dead.

These are the only ones I can think of x_x

Wrong fucking time
Wrong fucking place
There is no fucking way
This is not about race
Who's gonna call 911
When they can't tell a wallet
From a motherfucking gun
?
Bang! Bang! - Le Tigre.

Today is the greatest
Day I have ever known
Can’t wait for tomorrow
I might not have that long.

Today - Smashing Pumpkins.

Bullshit fakers, enchanted kingdoms
The fashion victims chew their charcoal teeth.

Zero - Smashing Pumpkins.

Yeah, I edited my post.

I disagree with so many of those lyrics.

My favorite lyrics are

I'm half awake a world away
My past mistakes and every wasted day
Proves that i'll never change
I'll always stay the same
I wouldn't have it any other way.

-Less Than Jake (Gainesville Rock City)

-----

Regime change under a Bush doctrine.
Democratic installations.
Constant war for constant soldiers. What are we gonna do now?
De-escalation through military force.
Increase the pressure.
Oh Condoleezza what should we do about the situation in Iran and North Korea?

-Against Me! (From her lips to god's eyes [the energizer])

------

I smoke two joints before I smoke two joints, and then I smoke two more

Oh, my daddy he once told me, "Son, you be hard working man"
My mama she once told me, "Son, you do the best you can"
But then one day I met a man who came to me and said
"Hard work good and hard work fine, but first take care of head"

-Sublime/Bob Marley (Smoke 2 joints)

-----

Take a good hard look for the very last time
The very last one in a very long line.
Only took a second to say goodbye
Been a pleasure, but the pleasure's been mine all mine

- Foo Fighters (DOA)

-----

In '82 I was the young one in the bunch
Initation started and ended with a punch
As I got older I got scars to prove my worth
More times than others I fell face first in the dirt
Wo ho ho can't you see, you'll never take the gang out on me.

-Lars Frederiksen and the bastards (Skunx)

------

So strike a match
And hope it lasts
Heres to following your oun lead

-Less Than Jake (Faction)

------

if you had all the facts, all the fictions
if you knew everything about science and all about religion
would you stand by your convictions
would you still make all the right decisions
would accept someone eles's opinions in this life

-Less Than Jake (Showbiz? Science? Who cares?)

I could go on..and on...and on.

Way too many... I don't think I could choose to be honest.

There's this song I love, ZR sent me it, I can't remember the name of it but it's by a guy called Mike Pinto, just found it, it's called One More Time and it's a really nice song.

My favourite part from it is:

This ain’t a lesson on how you should be livin’
How to make a dollar or get all the women
This is a melody for all my friends and family
A word of thanks for all the loving that they’ve giving to me
I’m letting you know I feel the same way
It’s your lovin’ that could get me through the worst day
Well you can crank up the music and be well supplied
But a party ain’t a party till your friends arrive

Oh and you can't beat a bit of Koopa:

"One more time, to say, I'm really sorry, for selling your mother on ebay" - Complicated Things

"So when you feel half dead, cos you're so fucked out of your head, you still gotta go home, face 'em alone there's no need to worry, cos she's been there before, a hypocrite who shut the door, on a life of fun back when she was young so this has got to be some for your mum" - Some 4 ya mum

"Don't need your cash or your freebies, we got this far with no money and this is what real music sounds like" Blag Steal and Borrow

and finally:

"I think you may have taken it just that little bit too far cos it takes you like 9 hours to do all your make up and like ten years to finish your hair and you'll do any man for as long as you can ten in one go and you don't care well you should care" - MiniSkirts

I can't think of anymore at the moment but yeah.
