but simply gave you black eyes

maybe if I were close enough
I'd see a gold that washes away
the simplicities of the sea's reflections
and I'd know that he hasn't granted you so
with colors in your eyes to echo your soul
or maybe I am wrong
the mask you wear upon your hollow face
can only but warn me
to trace my gentle footsteps back into time
for the Nothing in your eyes may seep into mine
and then I too shall be
a masquerade
upon the world
to scorn
