This is so very, very odd, and won't make it past 2 pages. But I want to have a discussion about something innocuous and harmless.

http://ca.news.yahoo.com/s/20062006/2/koddities-fluffernutter-sandwich-sparks-sticky-debate-massachusetts-legislature.html

What does everyone think? Can anyone really be outraged about Fluff? It's a staple of elementary school. I haven't had it in a long time...which is all right because i recall it being noxious crap.

But isn't the competition for "state sandwich" a little pointless anyway? It's just one more factoid 5th graders have to learn...

lmfao lmfao lmfao

Oh, come on, I cannot believe something as harmless as a marshmallow 'fluff' sandwich can be controversial. At all. I've never even heard of the things.

But it made me laugh anyway.

Alright, as ridiculous as this whole thing is, it does relate to important health legislation issues and SD could use a lighter thread.
So unless Steph sees otherwise...

Actually, I think I have some marshmallow fluff in my cupboard.
Meg, want to argue from the viewpoint of the fluff? Wink

Yes Kitti! Yes I do!

Oh behalf of the fluff, I would like to say, this innocent little fluff did never do any harm to anyone. Furthermore, I would like to add that only when the fluff is misused by parents feeding it to their children, does it cause actual problems. I see this fluff points to a deeper problem in society, one where we are keener to blame fluff than our bad parenting skills.

Health legislation can have little or no effect without the willing co operation of people, and as long as we keep plugging the blame away on some little marshamallows, we won't make any progress.

lmfao
See? I debated all that and kept a straight face. Honorary fluff for me, I think. Retard

Well, the problem with Fluff in schools is that it sets kids up for bad eating habits later in life which means they're likely to either develop an eating disorder or having weight or heart problems later.

But the schools don't provide healthy alternatives.
And that's kind of been the issue lately.

I think putting marshamllow fluff into a jar makes it too readily available.. creating a lazy society.. that rather than going out.. buying the marshmallows.. finding a stick.. whitling the end.. and making a campfire.... they can simply just go to the store.. and buy a jar 'o' FLUFF.

Lazyness no doubt can lead to health problems because of the lack of energy it takes to go to a store.. rather than doing all of the regular marshmallowing activities...

Making it readily available in stores.. will also likely make it a more highly consumed product.. and because of its high suger content.. could lead to diabetes related problems.

Well, your debate is a bit irrelevant until the last few words.
Unless you've perfected the process of making marshmallow fluff sans sugar over a campfire, that is.

Let me explain. Fluff is only the latest in a series of moronic developments in nutrition in American schools. Clearly it's an issue if we need legislation for it. But the problem is that school food tastes bad. Really bad. So kids bring lunches that are unhealthy. Schools need to offer better and healthier food, but they aren't, not when they count tomato catsup as a serving of vegetables. I can tell you from experience that there is nothing healthy left in most school lunches, and how could there be when they process the hell out of it? But the food kids bring to school from home is pretty bad too, I mean, what part of marshmallow fluff and peanut butter is NOT processed to death?

I was just really bullshitting everything... What I said was all in jest.

I have no side on the issue of "Marshamallow Fluff."

However.. I've never known a school to serve such shit.

Wow, I posted this maybe 5 hours ago...this is more controversial than I thought!

The stuff they give kids in school is trash anyway. Deep-fried sandwiches, almost. Wouldn't be surprised if they're serving that next year. So I don't exactly see that a moratorium on fluff will solve anything...

It's legislation about nutrition in American schools. It's a lot easier to get public attention with a funny but absurd example like marshmallow fluff.
Of COURSE it won't be banned in schools. But this is a way of showing people that the lunch programs aren't right and something needs to be done about it.
