I'm running out of things to write about.

Worn-down patches on my knees from grovelling on gravel paths.
These love-wounds cut to the bone and I'm nursing broken skin
and a broken heart in this shattered tale of undestined romance.
She would always hold me from a distance that was tear-streaked
and uncertain, one eye guarding the door against intruders.
"We'll be together forever...well, as long as they never find out.
Reputation weighs heavier than love and we've always been unbalanced.
It doesn't mean I don't care about you. It's just that I'm afraid."
She'd only hold me to her heart under moonlit covers with
the bed lamp proving the shadows were just rejects of hope.

But she'd still christen me with rays of assertive resolution
in those slipped seconds when the threat was beyond her concern.
"I know they'll be breathing against the window at dawn, but I
don't care. The only time we've got allocated to our destiny is now.
Let's seize it and each other and burn their law-book restrictions.
We can match the flames with our passion...only if you want to."
Pulling me to her bed like I was unwilling to follow her intentions,
as if my insecurities were a stronger glue than my need was a
passionate impulse, as if my heart was tacked to the sole of my shoe.
I was always willing to tread on my emotions to get closer to her.

And now I'm just cupping my palm to capture these pearl memories,
trying to make sense of the "Goodbye" that echoes off "I love you".
Forever lasted as long as it took you to make up your mind.
It was always much easier to play safe than to play with fire.
And the blame still fills the air with tension in its indecision,
flickering between you, me and our destiny when neither of us
are strong enough to stumble more than a second with the weight.
But I'll carry these disjointed memories in shattered frames
just to remember the romantic disaster that we always were and
I'll carve my apologies on the pebbles that decorate your driveway,
my tear-purged offerings of a sentimental fool too afraid of the end.

Inari, that was ultra amazing. Shocked I love the dialogue touches. I love the ocassional rhyme. I love it all. Most certainly one of my favourites of all time. Of all poetry. <333

Good God, woman, you're an inspiration machine.
I adore it so much it made my socks explode. I loved the metaphor of 'pearl memories', and I adored the first line 'Worn-down patches on my knees from grovelling on gravel paths.'
