The full moon hanging in the sky
Cast a light on one faint object
Offshore, silently screaming out of fright
The faint object was indeed a girl
Who’d wanted to swim late at night
But she’d swam too far out; lost her strength
Now about her the dark waters curl
Struggling to keep her head above
She looked around for signs of help
And of course she saw none out this late
All at once she seemed to know her fate
Her arms still flailed above the surface
Desperately trying to save her own life
And screaming though her lungs filled with blue
How long she had left, she thought she knew
Finally the curls wrapped round her
With their strong and gripping embrace
Water rushing in her open jaw
And smothering the rest of her face
The undercurrent pulled her down
Like a magnet and a paperclip
The pressure crushing her ribcage
As bubbles spewed forth from her pale lips
In the last few seconds she had left
Her eyes open and see the moonlight
Shimmering, reflecting on the curls
And close slowly for the final time |
