puzzled about the eyes of one who doesn't know they're crying.
I could have sworn my eyes were as dry as sunrise in summer
but she kept drawing back the clouds to show me the truth and
I can't remember how she got her; the patron saint of philosophy,
but somehow my bed became her sanctum as it painted my hell.
Between the covers, all that we exercised were our minds.
She was striving for depth in water as shallow as showers and
I was exploring my insecurities for reasons why she should stay.
Her eyes saw the knots I made in the blankets but misread the meaning.
"With eyes searching for footing on ice-glazed pebbles and a soul
searching for the retribution that you're not sure exists anymore,
you're a regular, complex contradiction of ideas, my darling,
the anti-Christ of dreamers and I bet even Joseph wouldn't
long to discern what you see during those long October nights.
And you throw frowns into the wind in place of your caution,
beading tears onto sighs with precision for night-time entertainment,
seeking more pleasure than birthing yawns offered your lungs.
Eyelids are strained with trying, knowing that the fight is dead.
Let them fall, my dreamer, and have faith your world won't follow.
There are cushions on rock bottom and open hearts waiting to catch your fall." |
