Um, like the title says, this is about war, more specifically, a soldier. But as the title does not say, it was inspired by a movie about World War I, called "All Quiet On The Western Front." To anyone who's seen that movie, it explains why I titled the poem this way. Well, anyways, I'm done with the background information, and I'd really like some feedback. Thanks to anyone who reads.

THE BUTTERFLY

He's afraid of the dark,
Where nothing can be seen.
He's scared of the blackness of the night.

He walks carelessly in a park,
Where all the grass is green,
And not a single cloud in sight.

Don't be afraid of the dark.

Young songbirds fill the trees,
With lovely buds in bloom,
The universe filled with utter joy.

He'd soon be on his knees,
Fighting the utter doom,
But oh, please, he's just a little boy.

Don't be afraid of the dark.

He couldn't close his eyes,
And imagine the light.
If he did, the dark would never go.

Mother, hold him as he cries,
So afraid of the night,
An obstacle to everything we know.

He's so afraid of the dark.

Hold on, brother. It's okay.
The darkness will end soon.
Nothing can go on for forever.

You don't always have to stay,
Underneath this moon,
And all the daylight sever.

I'm so afraid of the dark.

He reaches for the dawn,
But it's too far away,
And luck will not save him tonight.

In memory of times foregone,
I only want to say,
I miss you badly here in the light.

We'll always be afraid of the dark.
