PLease dont lock this until you ahve read it through, it is a news peice from todays news.

Today in the Uk the goverment ruled to give 3 prisoners compensation, for the lack of drug care they received in prison, the sum is said to be undisclosed and they said that the Methadone they were giving in prison was not enough and it didnt last long enough, and that they had to go cold turkey, (to stop drugs straight away), now they are sueing the prison athorities because they said that they ahd they're human rights abused, cold turkey makes you, have stomach cramps, diorhea (SP), shakes, head aches, and many more side affects, now i just wandered if you all thought they were doing the right thing by sueing the goverment, because they didnt have the drugs they needed,

here is the story told in the news:

Prisoners forced to stop taking drugs set for cash windfall
PRISONERS are poised to win undisclosed pay-outs after suing the Home Office because they were forced to stop taking drugs in jail, it was revealed today.

The charity DrugScope said the group of six inmates and former inmates who used heroin and other opiates were on the verge of settling out of court with the Prison Service.

The case - alleging the "cold turkey" treatment they were forced to undergo amounted to assault - had been scheduled to start in London today.

The prisoners brought the action based on trespass, because they say they did not consent to the treatment, and for alleged clinical negligence.

so what do you all think, Personally i think its a disgrace, no one forced these people to take drugs and under no circumstances should methadone be held on prison grounds, and anyway prison is the wrong place to come free of drugs, there are drugs in prsion already, and anouther point i am going to have an operation this week and i am not going to sue the hospital because it was painful recovering, also i have a likeing to chocolate should i go to the dr for a substitute? Also what about sex ofenders they are addicted to sex are the dr's going to subscribe a subsitute for them? No, so why should drug addicts be any differant,

to me this case should've have been thown out of court before it got there,

That is an interesting story on prisoner rights...

FOr example... in my little county of NYS, the Prison Authority(or whatever the name of the group thatwatches out for the jails etc) order a number of the cells shut down since the cells did not have access to natural light.

BUT the county gov't is wanting to place the Dept of Social Services workers into a windowless building.

At what point do you say 'Well gee, prisoners did something to get here. Why should they have an easy life of their time in jail'.

I don't feel for thos prosioners who had to go 'cold turkey'. That's a punishment for their crime. If they didn't want to go cold turkey then they should have kept their noses clean (pun intended).

its quite frankly disgraceful that people who have done something wrong are treated better than law abiding citizens
Also, drug addicts are being given heroin on the NHS whilst cancer and altzheimers (sp?) patients are being denied life saving medicines

Not really... As someone with a relative taken Aricept(sp) I can tell you that it works... What it does is that it stops the progression of the disease. Everyonce in a while G-pa does a bug up his ass and stops taking it. As soon as he stops... the disease progresses again very quickly. Then we convince him to take to again and once again it stops, but then he has lost things that the drug won't bring back.

This thing with these drugs is that you have to continue to take them and you will stay at the point of the disease when you start taking it. You can't stop it or you get worse.

Yes is there is no cure but at least meds can stop it from getting worse and therefor quality of life is still good...
