Okay, so I searched this forum, but I did not find anything on personality disorders. If this is a duplicate, please give me the link to the other thread, and this one can be deleted - of course.

The purpose of this thread is to exchange information of what we know and what stories we might have to tell about our own conditions or the conditions of others around us.

I have been interested in personality disorders for a while. I have never been to a psychiatrist, nor have I been on any medications. However, I have taken a number of online personality disorder tests. Here is are result from one such test:

Paranoid: High
Schizoid: Very High
Schizotypal: Moderate
Antisocial: Low
Borderline: Very High
Histrionic: Low
Narcissistic: Low
Avoidant: High
Dependent: High
Obsessive-Compulsive: High

You can also take this test here.

Mentalhelp.net:
Personality disorders are pervasive chronic psychological disorders, which can greatly affect a person's life. Having a personality disorder can negatively affect one's work, one's family, and one's social life. Personality disorders exists on a continuum so they can be mild to more severe in terms of how pervasive and to what extent a person exhibits the features of a particular personality disorder. While most people can live pretty normal lives with mild personality disorders (or more simply, personality traits), during times of increased stress or external pressures (work, family, a new relationship, etc.), the symptoms of the personality disorder will gain strength and begin to seriously interfere with their emotional and psychological functioning...

The rest of this article can be read here.

Mentalhelp.net also contains basic information on various personality disorders symptoms and effective treatments.

Here is a list of other PD information and test sites:

Discuss what, exactly?
You need to give us something to debate with; an opinion or something.

People abuse 'disorders'. They claim (or maybe do have) conditions or personality disorders and use them as an excuse for their mean actions and hurt they cause to other people.

By the way, I took that test, I scored 'low' in every category except one (Histrionic: Moderate) lmfao
Perhaps that means i'm sane.
Although I shall not be judging my mental health on any online test for now.
Either way, personality disorder or not, we're all just human. I hold this radical view that mental disorders are just excuses because we're too afraid to reach out to people who think differently to us, or we just long for a cure to a problem that is us and who we are.

Alot of people question if certain personality disorders even exist, and if they can be blamed on the person who has them. Some doctors believe that certain events in your life cause you to develop disorders, others say you're born with them.

oh, wonderful Grmml

i think sometimes your born with a personallity disorder and sometimes you develop disorders. ive think i have develeped something over the past year

last year i was always hyper and silly and i didnt give a shit about what people thouht about me. i got bad grades and was really rude to alot of people. i thought i never listened to teachers and my parents, but i did! last year i thought alot of stuff (like sex) was really pointless and gross.

now i think alot of those things are not that bad. but ive also been really sad, i fell like no one likes me, and often dont talk in class beacuase im to scared of looking dumb. i fell like im stupid, but i also fell like the rest of the world is stupid.

its wierd beacause in one way, im proud that ive been thinking more and being less rude and trying to be nicer. but in other ways i fell like it was so much better when i didnt care about what people thought of me and i wish i still didn't and i was so much happyer when i was stupid

I myself think that personality disorders aren't really something a person is typically born with. But rather a brought on disorder of sorts.

Lately all you hear these days are how kids are getting worse. That might be true, but kids aren't born worse, they are made that way with careless parents.
If it were so that the kids were the problem, in this case, rates these days, would be just as they were say twenty years ago.

I'm not saying it's impossible to be born that way, because clearly that is isn't the case. You can be born with disorders and the like. There are just more frequent cases due to the standards of living these days.
Parents often find themselves either unable to find the time to spend with their children, or they are just too wrapped up in their own lives when they do have free time to really give a damn. No, not all parents. But a lot.

These days people just think things can be cured with drugs. Oh, give them a pill, that'll fix 'em. Yeah, right. Maybe in a hundred years. Rolling Eyes

Kids need attention from their parents, approval and support. That just doesn't happen very often anymore. More times than not, I hear of a friend telling me how their parent disproves of them say, being in the music industry, for exmaple.

Parents want the best for their kids, I get that. What I don't get is why they must push and push and force their child to do something they just don't want. Anymore that's all that happens. Nobody ever gets to be what they really want anymore. It's not that they didn't get up and try, they did, they just got their dreams shot down by parents who feel the need to control.

Sure, they want nothing to do with their kid until they're ready to make their life-long career choice, then it's nitpick this and that. Kids with real, sensible dreams, getting their hopes up because that's not what their parent wants.
Or, their parent wants them to go to college, but they don't want to. Then they make bad grades because they didn't wanna go and then it's all criticism. Way to go on the structure of your child's self esteem geniuses!

As a child, my parents split up and my mother had to go straight to work to support myself and my two siblings since none of us were old enough to get a job. Work can be tiring and all that jazz, I understand that. But even on vacations and stuff, my mother never paid much attention to me. I sorta turned out to enjoy being by myself, yet I enjoy being in the company of at least one close friend.

So people develop these most likely when they were growing up. I'm not saying it doesn't develop in the adult years, because I am very certain it can. But for most, it likely occurs in the teen years. People just aren't making an effort to see to what their children want rather than what they want them to be. And all of this just piles on the, affecting their self-esteem, their confidence and it becomes too much to handle and boom, we have personality disorders!

Now of course, don't get me wrong, I'm not saying it's all parents' faults. To each their own. There are obviously other ways to develop them, but this is the main one (at least I see it that way.) and the one that pisses me off the most.

Now I'ma shut up.

Its an ok result even though I think Im very paranoid. I guess that we are born with some personality disorders and some come as an effect of an event. It is just who we are, but if things get out of control, you should look for help.

Well, for one, with this test, it's not a prefessional test. All of these questions have yes or no answers, and for someone of them, I was thinking "kinda..." and for others I was thinking "Not really.." so I would click whatever one I was leaning most towards. So it's not really accurate.

To be tested for these things, you need to see a professional.

And with these things, I think a lot of people tend to self diagnose.. as in, exaggerate, or not fully understand the question, and just think "Yeah, that sounds like me."

But I think personality disorders come because of an event that has happened.

And this is what I got, so uh, okay o.O

Paranoid: Very
Schizoid: High
Schizotypal: Very High
Antisocial: High
Borderline: Very High
Histrionic: High
Narcissistic: High

As Coff said above, i found alot of my answers to the questions were 'sort of' and wanted to expand my answers. There is absolutly no doubt in my mind that i can pick out situations in the past that contributed to some of the conditions i have. But all I feel I can do is try and work on correcting the conditions, i believe its possible

My Results:

Paranoid: High
Schizoid: Low
Schizotypal: High
Antisocial: Low
Borderline: Low
Histrionic: Moderate
Narcissistic: Moderate
Avoidant: Very High
Dependent: High
Obsessive-Compulsive: High

My results:

Paranoid: moderate
Schizoid: high
Schizotypal: high
Antisocial: low
Borderline: moderate
Histrionic: moderate
Narcissistic: low
Avoidant: moderate
Dependent: moderate
Obsessive-compulsive: high

the results are kinda what i expected.
but i think that society has a big influence on our behavior and personality. but if someone feels depressed most of the time, he should look for help. there's nothing wrong in seeing a psychiatrist.

Chaa.

Anyway, it all depends. Really. Some depression is caused by an hormone imbalance. Guess when your hormones are they most active? Teenagehood.

Also, there is more cases today of mental health that's reported because there was a far larger stigmatism against mental health in earlier years.

Yeah...that's all I have to say really.

Oh for god sakes. It takes months and months for a trained therapists to formerly diagnose a patient and even then they can be mistaken.

Any test on a website will be be faulty is done on a majority question survey and can mislead you. I would advise against doing one uless you see it for what it is.

Yeah, that's exactly what I thought. I mean, with here, it's very black and white, and you'd need a person to be able to tell properly.

Alright, you can post your test results in here, but you need to make a contribution to the discussion or this will have to be locked.

I took the test since I have already been dianosed with a personlity disorder and currently under the care of professonials Wink

I thought the test was not unlike the ones I have taken to get dianosed by the professionals...

the thing about it being so black and white with no kinda option to choose is the same as on those tests.

This difference is that the professional is also talking with you and gatehring OTHER info in conjucntion with the testWink
