Ned's Declassified School Survival Guide takes place in California at James K. Polk Middle School. It centers around Ned Bigby, a now eighth grader (although during the first two seasons the character was in the seventh grade), and all the trials and tribulations an average middle schooler faces. Throughout each episode, Ned breaks the fourth wall by giving tips to the viewing audience at home on different subjects, such as the first day of school, school clubs, principals etc. Ned's two best friends are Jennifer Mosely, known as "Moze", and Simon Nelson-Cook, known as "Cookie." Ned, Moze, and Cookie all end up in situations in each short where Ned's tips are needed, and by the end of each short, everything is resolved. Each 22-minute episode contains two 11-minute shorts, both of which deal with a subject about school life. Many people feel that the show is very refreshing and reminiscent of early Nickelodeon shows because of its use of smart humor. The show and characters have greatly developed from its first season. It is widely regarded that the target age group for the show has shifted to an older audience after the first season, and this can be reflected in the plentitude of relationship related storylines in the second series. Additionally, almost all the first season's episodes were based on 'school problems': backpacks, emergency drills, talent shows etc., but in the second season, a lot more episodes focused on the teenager themselves: your body, asking someone out, shyness etc. It should also be noted on more than one occasion, a character other than Ned broke 'the fourth wall'. (Moze in the episodes "Guide to: Nicknames and Shyness", "Guide to: Dismissal & The School Play",and "Guide to: Boys & Girls" and Gordy in "Guide to: Emergency Drills & Late Bus", "Guide to Double Dating & The Last Day",and "Guide to: Cheaters and Bullies"  I heart this show! I also kind think Gordy is cute. And he's like 40. Oops |
