I wrote this about the late Joe Strummer, since this is the 4th anniversary of his death. There are lots of Clash references. Please let me know what you think.

The tears just won't come free

That still comforts me

I wonder if the gates of heaven
treated you the same as the gates of the west
All I know is that to me
Your words will never be put to rest

Even to this day I can feel
The ground tremble from your stride
You taught me to sing much louder
And that feelings were nothing to hide

But you still lit the first flame
Because of you, they're still rockin' the casbah
Because of you, I'll never be the same

Well your words echo in my ear
There's no other voice I'd have there
And there's no one else who fought the law
'Cause everyone else was too scared

And now we can only remember the days
When you stood twenty feet tall

It feels so weird thinking about Him
He really was a Hero
and I could never get over how cool he was...

I feel the same. He was larger than life itself. He's far from dead though. He's still very much alive in my opinion. And that thought alone makes me feel so much better. He may be physically dead, but not at all when you look at the impact he still has today. And yes, he was the essence of cool. I see pictures and videos of him everyday and I hear him everyday and he still seems like such a mythical figure. He doesn't even seem mortal. He's a true hero. Maybe the only hero.
