How about a forum where when its someones birthday the thread will appear, automatically saying the name and age that person is turning, then everyone can wish them a happy birthday! Very Happy

Good:
- It'll 'clean up' So, what's new?
- Everyone will get a thread regardless of whether they have friends on the site

Bad:
- It's impersonal
- Most people won't even go into that forum, so the whole idea of the thread will kinda lose meaning
- It'll turn into a place where people will post to raise their post count
- A lot of people leave the site, but their thread will still appear

It means a lot more to get a thread from a friend, and have people who know you say 'happy birthday' than get an automatic thread that no one will post in. The site already automatically annouces your birthday by adding a sign to your posts that day, we don't need more than that.
I don't like this idea, sorry.

I think it would be nice...just not the 'POOF! BIRTHDAY THREAD' part.

all the GSB and Celebrity B-Day/RIP threads could go there Think it would emensly clean up 'what's new'

....idk.

No, the main problem with your idea is that you want the topics to appear automatically. Noob threads don't appear automatically.

Maybe we should have a B-Day/RIP thread. Just let it work how its in the So, whats new? thread, that people make birthday threads for their friends, heros, whatever... The same thing with RIP threads.

Maybe just a special occasion thread? Because people make Welcome Backs, RIPS, Happy Birthdays, and things too.

I think RIP/Happy Birthday threads are just unecessary full stop.
Nobody cares anymore, it was kitsch when it all started, but now it gets out of hand. I mean, people make birthday threads for [insert trendy pop-star] or RIP threads when their pet iguana died. And it isn't relevant.

^ Let's not forget happy birthday threads to family members of a GSBian who probably don't even know what this site is to begin with.
I can see making happy birthday threads to people who actually visit this place...but otherwise, it's pretty pointless.

I don't like the idea. These threads clutter up the band member forums (ex Billie's birthday and such) and the So what's new? forum immensely. It makes me wonder how many pages of So what's new? would disappear were those threads gone.
Besides, a forum like that will only turn into a place for people to go to jack up their post count.

well I kinda like the RIP thread for a famous person IF the is a discussion about the life works of said person.

RIP for an iguana was stupid (there was one of those wasn't there?)

The birthday's... meh, I'm on the fence with that

but no there is no need for a special forum

I don't like the birthday threads for obscure relatives of GSBians. Are people still allowed to make those?

what about just an automatic pm??
then the people looking to boost their posts can't do it, the person gets a pm regardless, and they will actually read it/see it, and if they leave GSB it wont clog anything up.. it'd just be an unread pm every year.

We already have happy birthday balloons that appear next to our posts on the proper day...
