In case you don't know Hellys are sneakers that have a wheel in the heel of the shoe. In many schools and malls they are banned for safety reasons. I think this is wrong. I think that they should be allowed but people should have to wear helmets with them and in schools you should at least be able to wear them withput the wheels. My social studies teacher sent a kid to the principal because he was wearing Heelys (without the wheels). They shouldn't be totally banned. Malls and schools are the best places to use them because of the smooth floors. I mean if people are going to abuse the privlidge of them by hurting others or whatever then that person should be punished by being kicked out of the mall or being sent to the principal. I have Heelys but I don't know how to use them so I just wear them without the wheels. I get in trouble at school for this. What do you think about this matter?

Here is an article about this: http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2006/03/03/earlyshow/living/parenting/main1365761.shtml

I think it's stupid to weat Heely's or whatever in public places like malls and schools. Would you wear roller blades, bike, or skateboard down your local mall? I think not. It's a huge saftey issue, as well. Think of all the elderly people and children that could be in those places. Besides, most kids aren't responcible or smart enough to stop for people passing by, and would plow right into people/things.

And what's the point of having the shoes if you don't wear/use the wheels? Why not get a cheaper, less dangerous pair or shoes?

my friend is going to teach me to use them and people should stop worrying about stupid stuff like this and try to resolve other problems in malls and schools. it's more important to ban something fun for kids then stoping kids bringing weopons to school and people stealing things in malls?

as for the safety issue maybe they could make a special place in the mall for Heelys and allow kids to use Heely's in gym class....with proper safety gear

Yeah.
Let's just build a new part to a mall for a fashion trend.

And what about those children that don't / can't pay 50+ $ for shoes like that?

There will be people(quite a few) who disgared rules compleatly and don't wear safty gear or wear them with the wheels anyways. Which would mean that the School Admin. and Mall security would have to inforce them all the time which would take away from them dealing with real problems or they won't enforce them at all and leave the problem exactly where it started.

Haha, funny there should be a thread for this...

The other day at the middle school, some kid got knocked off the sidewalk and broke his ankle because another kid with Heelys (Heelies?) on ran into him by accident.

Its about time, if I almost get hit one more time by some kid thinking its funny to "run" into people I think I'm gonna snap. Seriously, I think they are dangerous and just stupid. Why buy them if you aren't going to use the wheels? A girl at school does the same thing. They look like every other skate shoe you can buy. Maybe I souldn't respond considering I'm already pissed, but whatever ._.

Maybe if mall security and school boards didn't have to deal with ignorant kids and their fashion trends, they could worry about more serious things.

They seem quite dangerous.

And yes, I agree with them being banned.

I can just see in my mind the number of kids who would've already broken something in their body from those things. And why risk the safety of others?

I was at the mall the other day and a little girl almost got hit by a car in the parking lot cause she was rolling around on them while her mum was putting bags in the trunk. Yeah, if she did get hit, it'd be partially the mum's fault for not paying attention, but I think yinz get my point?
After i got in the mall I saw someone else get knocked down cause a kid on them.

They arent safe. Theyre just a trend, and hopefully the trend wont last very long.

AND, UH, KINDA THE BEST PLACE FOR YOU TO HURT MANY, MANY PEOPLE Cheese

I think these shoes are dumb and a deathtrap. Seriously, what happened to blades? Gosh, they were all the rage back in my day. You might as well just use the rollerblades that were actually meant for the purpose of blading. And as for the 'where-do-I-wheel-myself-around'...well, when I was a kid, people rollerbladed on pavements or in parks or other outdoor areas with concrete flooring. Sometimes even a skatepark, you know, those places have smooth floors.

You say it's stupid to have rule's about this, but there have been so many injuries in the past 6 months or so connected with heelies. One boy went into a coma and hasn't come out of it yet, and yeah, the safest place to use them is in a place packed with people. Nice one.

They're absolutely ridiculous, and I don't see the point in them.

As for wearing them without the wheels, why don't you just wear normal shoes? Surely it's a waste of money by wheeled shoes and then taking the wheels out? And I can see the point, because you might have the wheels in your bag, they're not gonna spend the lesson searching your bag or your locker in case you've got wheels.

Yeah, I agree with them being banned. To be honest, saying 'oh well, that sucks for them' if you can't afford them is just selfish, and as for malls being the best place to use them - well, what is a mall for? Not skating.

I think the shoes are one of the most ridiculous inventions anyway. I agree with the person above about it being a waste of money to take the wheels out. Doing that has got to be pandering to fashion and trend so much it's unreal. They're not practical, just because you know how to skate doesn't mean they're safe. You might be a good driver, but that doesn't stop you getting into car accidents.

To be honest, I just think this is all really very selfish.

To me they don't seem very safe and why would you skate around your mall or school.
What about all the safety issues involved with such shoes?
Your saying to make a special part for them inside the malls: What happens when this trend goes out of fashion.
It would just be money gone down the drain that could be used for things in life that people actually need.

I think those shoes are one of the most ridiculous things I've come across lately. And no, mall/school areas are most certainly not the best places to use them.
aaa

Last weekend, I was at the mall, and a whole pack of children wearing those things were rolling around out of control, bumping into shoppers and knocking down other children. It was chaos.

I agree that they should be banned. Grmml
