I think it's reasonable that they're banned in schools. In malls, I don't really hang out at malls much, but given the crowds, I bet it wouldn't exactly be safe. I agree with the ban. Kids can use them outside, in the park, at their friends houses, and places like that. There's no need to use them in school. I mean, I agree, they're mad fun, but it's just too dangerous. You have people rushing around in the hallways trying to get to class. Although heelies would so get you to class faster, how many people would you knock into and push down on the way? And when you're pushed and shoved by other people, you could easily lose control and slam your face into a locker.

i agree with banning them from shopping centres, and schools its not funny to keep gettinghit by them,, and schools have to keep the students safe, in fact they have an obligation to keep students and teachers safe.

No shoes like that in Croatia Fizz

But from your stories those shoes sound dangerous. Rollerblades aren't allowed in schools and malls and these Heelys are some kind of rollerblading shoes then they should be banned as well. I mean whats the point of rollerblading if you are gonna do it in a mall or in a school? As Meg said, you have pavements and skate parks for that.

The amount of kids round my area that have them, they're really a danger to themselves and I wont be surprised if anyone gets hit by a car from carelessness.

I find it funny how this trend has come back, i remember when i was 8 or 9 when a different variation of heely things were out (you had to push a button on your trainers to pop out the wheels)

Yeah, maybe they are. But you know, maybe they aren't.

Think about it. Rollerblades are made for the single purpose of blading. Basically, from what I see of these shoes, they're just shoes with wheels. Rollerblades are often designed to stay on your feet, by straps or buckles or something, so they won't just fall off and you won't hurt your ankle or twist it.

Plus, people take rollerblades more 'seriously'. Not many people are daft enough to go round their school corridors in rollerblades, and they know to go outside or to a park to do it. But then you get normal shoes with wheels, and people think its okay to do it inside where there are a lot of people.

I dunno. It seems to me like rollerblades are better, if only for the respect they get. At least if you're going to have 'heely' shoes, treat them with the same kind of respect.

Just because you haven't seen anyone get hurt yet doesn't mean that it doesn't and won't happen. They're dangerous when not used responsibly. I'm all for them when the wheels are used in the proper place, where there are no crowds/elderly people.

Tell me, would you put on roller skates and go around your school hallways or around your mall? Is that allowed? There's no difference between heeleys and roller skates/skate boards/ roller blades.

yeah but not ALL people use them irresponibly (sp?)....ok I give up. my point was that it sucks for the people who don't go really fast and crash into people. I can use them down the street because there are cracks in the road that make you crash. Have you ever tried skating around a parking lot or the street in roller blades? I gotten many cuts, bruises, and scabs from tripping over the cracks in the pavement. So where are you supposed to use them? when i said that malls and schools are the best place for them I meant that because of the floors. They are smooth. I DO realize that because of crowds/elderly people/small children they can be unsafe places for that. And no, you wouldn't use roller blades or anything of that sort in schools/malls. That's why Heely's are good for places like that. I walk to and from school so i take my time at my locker and my friend and I use them around the EMPTY hallways after everyone has gotten on the buses. We aren't the ones who use them in between classes and frickin run people over. As for the malls aren't they open before the stores actually open for people who like to walk or run around?

Honestly, I've never seen anyone using those the way you've just described.

I'm not saying that there's no responsible kids out there, I'm just saying that, from what I've seen, the majority of the people using it are careless and could wind up causing loads of accidents.

I agree with you about the floors. I am a rollerblader (not a very good one) and yes, I love smooth floors. I would rollerblade in the house if I could get away with it. And I personally would love to go rollerblading in a school or mall because the floors are nice and smooth. But I do not want to die, get hurt, or hurt anyone else just because of my own selfish complusive need to go all over smooth floors.

And anyway, that's what skating rinks are for.

You don't own the mall or school, you really don't have the right to decide if their regulations are unfair, and they tear up the floors inside. Not to mention little kids on them sometimes don't have the most control in the world.

Thank you.

I was in town this morning and I was watching a couple of kids going down steep slopes in the middle of the street on those things. They obviously knew how to skate, but that's not the point - the number of people I saw who had to dodge out of their way was incredible, and one was pregnant.

So don't say it's fine if you know how to skate. Once you know how, you're more likely to take risks and become irresponsible because you'll take it for granted.

Hun, this is a discussion thread, I'm just voicing my opinion.

And just one person can ruin it for everyone. The world is unfair, deal with it.

I understand where you're coming from about the smooth floors, but there's got to be some other place with a smooth enough surface you can wheel around. It's just too much of a safety issue for the one in the shoes and the people around to use them in malls and schools. Plus, who wants to come to a mall before the stores open just to wheel around? Kinda defeats the purpose of using them to get somewhere quicker, eh?

Some people do though. And Yeah... I can rollerblade in parking lots and on the street O__o no big deal. And do you know what those heelies do to the floors? They destroy them. They scuff them up and scratch them. It's disrespectful to use them indoors like that.

Like I said before, there's got to be some other place where you live other than schools and malls that have a decently smooth surface. Is there not a park where you live?

And so, what's the point of having them in school?

I agree with them being banned. Kids can lose control of the and smash into people, and a lot of kids race each other in the middle of the stores with them and can't stop and run into people. You can always use them in the park or whatever...why in stores?

Yeah I had some of those. They were a lot safer because the wheels would be tucked away and stuff..meh.

Apparently someone is suing the heelies company because their kid went to fast on them, went into the road and got run over.

But I don't think that's got anything to do with heelies..more to do with a suing culture and parents who don't keep their kids under control or teach them that cars hurt when they crash into you at 30mph...

You've got to be kidding me. They weren't responsiable and let their kid play near traffic, so they sue the company that makes their toys? Thats so ridiculous.
