I think that they should be required to read the books if they're going to play the part.

No excuses.

Well like I've said, it's a LOT to ask someone to read, and they're only acting out what they're given in the script and what they've spoken about with the director.

Do you have any reservations over Alan Rickman's portrayal of Snape? He hasn't read the books, yet he's spot on.

Besides, if you don't enjoy reading, or you're not fond of JKR's writing style then it's a very tedious thing to have to do. Billions of other people have read the books because they've wanted to, because they've enjoyed them, not because they've had to. If, every time you started a new job, and you started new jobs very often, you were asked to read a few hundred pages of story, I think you wouldn't appreciate it, PLUS the few hundred other pages of script that needs reading and learning.

When you're an actor/actress you don't just prance onto the set, do a take and trundle off home with loads of spare time, it's really hard work, and a lot of the time you end up working 12 hour days, nightshoots, all away from home. It's not an easy job in the slightest and doesn't leave you much spare time.

I dunno, maybe it's just the actress in me sticking up for my fellow thesbians, but it's up to the script writers to give you your words, and it's up to the director to tell you how to play it, so reading the books isn't necessary, as long as those people know what they're doing.

And please, no more Harris vs Gambon debates, they're old and they go around in circles, so leave it.

Okay so I'm wrong again. Seems to be the falovor of the week. No one even likes me on here I feel. *sigh* I just feel like a failure cause everyone's like: "Nope you're wrong stfu."
I know that's not what everyone is saying but that's how I feel I'm being treated. I mean the only person who I think really likes me is Meski sometimes.
Sorry if I hurt anyones feelings.

dude, don't take everything so personal. Cheese fp just explained her point of view, she didn't tell you to stfu (nor she was like). and saying you're opinion or disagreeing with the opinion of someone else, isn't starting a fight or whatever.

and I like you btw.

April, just because someone disagrees with you it doesn't mean they don't like you. I'm saying what I think, it's a debate. Surely the idea of having all these discussion threads is so we can discuss? It's not an argument, so don't get upset by it. Nobody's being mean (and if they are I'll give them a piece of my mind) so don't let it upset you.

If everybody thought the same thing then the world would be a very boring place, would it not?

If everybody thought the same thing, then JKR wouldn't have come up with HP in the first place, because she was in the same mindset as the rest of us.

Cheer up darling, and don't get upset over things which aren't meant to upset you, all right? =]

Luna Lovegood:

To be fair, he's 67, I doubt he walks into a bookshop and goes "O WAO HARRY POTTER RLY."

...no but he could walk in and buy a book. o_o
I doubt he finds much time, he seems pretty busy. Also, I dunno if he'd be into Harry Potter, for some reason.

April, I think all of us are teenagers here, or if not only recently just stopped. Just don't let things upset you, because they aren't meant to upset you. And if people do say something to intentionally upset you, who gives a shit? It'll be said by some twat over the internet who you most likely will never meet and whose opinion counts for jack shit. None of this is worth getting upset about.

Well don't be like that - say what you want. That''s the point I'm trying to make; we can say what we want because it's our own opinions.

I don't think they should have to read the books [the actors].
Their job is to act, not be a literature nerd.

Who I think does need to read the books is the scriptwriters and also the director Coolio Maybe if they did, we wouldn't get angry!dumbledore or dudley with black hair.

I'm sure they did read the books. Maybe Gambon just interpreted Dumbledore as being angry?

He's being angsty not angry.

Everyone can blatantly tell Dumbledore is an emo.

It still comes off angry.

And if he read the books, maybe he would understand Dumbledore better.

I think Gambon's accent ruins it and makes him seem angry.
