It's similar to Latin, and I think it might actually BE in Latin, but I don't think it actually grammatically makes sense. In things like publishing and website design and stuff, it's used as a placeholder text, because if there was normal text, it would distract the viewer, so a block of nonsensical text - Lorem Ipsum - is used because it looks like text but it doesn't distract the reader. Make sense? Essentially, it's just a block of filler place-holder text. Not sure what you mean by nominal case, though?

Clearly, in plural it's lores, and ipsum is some variation of himself/herself that could possibly mean oneself... but, there you have it again, I just don't know.
