Near the end of the book, Harry, Ron and Hermione are waiting for the carriages to come up to take them down to the station. The bit with Krum happens with the autograph and him shaking Harry's hand or whatever. Then the HORSELESS CARRIAGES pull up to the castle. Well at the start of OOTP we find out that they're actually being pulled by Thestrals 'cause Harry can see them now after Cedric died. Well Harry had already seen Cedric die by the end of GOF, yet was unable to see the Thestrals.
Very bad continuity error, Ms Rowling....
.. wow. I'm really surprised she overlooked that.. really surprised.
Except that it isn't.
JK said somewhere that you can only see Thestrals after the death has 'sunk in', so to speak. Since Cedric had only died a few days beforehand, he's still going to be feeling a bit numb and shocked by it.
Trust me, when somebody you know dies, you don't accpet it right away. |
