What do you all think about the Snape/Lily theory?
I sort-of believed it at first, but I was more 'meh, doubtful, but it allows my imagination to go wandering'. Now I'm definitely a convert.

I don't think its going to be an official theory or anything, but I love it. At first I was all surprised and I found that hard to believe, but it does make sense. I think Snape had a crush on her or something. I mean she was always defending him and everything and personally I don't think it was because she was in love with him, but I do believe he was in love with her in his own Snapey way.

But.... Snape has been loved. Source to that quote.

Why did Voldemort offer Lily so many chances to live? JKR: "Can't tell you."

For some reason that intrigues me immensely. There's something strange going on with Lily, I'm sure. Does anyone know what house she was in? Was she actually a Slytherin - it says in that list of theories that "Not everyone in Slytherin was evil". Perhaps it ties in with the Snape thing, I don't know. He certainly wasn't very nice to her when she helped him in the pensieve in HP5, but maybe he was just embarrassed and had to put a front up... maybe he asked Voldemort not to harm Lily, and for that he hasn't been able to fully forgive Ol'Voldy. Thus, Snape could possible end up helping Harry against Voldemort in one last battle as I've been thinking about.

Or maybe "Snape has been loved" was just Wormtail being a fag or something....

Yeah but I think if he'd cared about Lily, despite his hatred for James, he would have treated Harry more fairly.

Still, the whole giving her so many chances to live is interesting.

Could it possibly be anything to do with his own mother dying at such a young age? I don't know, maybe he was just trying to be crueller, making her live on after the murder of her husband AND son.

He's not going to treat Harry more fairly, he looks like James and everything about him reminds him of him. Besides, he was nasty to Lily and if it is true that he loved her, he certainly didn't show it. When Harry was attempting to fight Snape at the end of HBP, Snape didn't attempt anything dangerous on Harry or try to kill him. He'll definitely have a major part to play in the outcome of it, I'm sure.

Hmm... Now you mention it the thing about his mother is similar. He was obviously shocked when he found out that his mother died despite being a witch and he possibly saw the same with Lily. But then if he was going to kill Harry anyway, then it wouldn't have mattered about Lily. Hmm we'll have to wait and see I guess.

Yeah, but his love for Lily surely would have cancelled out his hatred for James.

Especially seeing as Harry's got Lily's eyes, so he must look at Harry and see Lily in him.

One would think that if giving the Potters to Voldemort was the biggest regret of his life, he would try and pacify his conscience by not being a complete and utter dickhead to Harry.

Still, don't ask me to fathom the way a potion master's mind works.

The whole thing about Snape being loved ties in with the thoery that Snape is good, because that's the very difference between Harry and Voldemort. Voldemort wasn't loved, Harry has been loved. "Power that the dark lord knows not", and all that. Plus, Dumbledore was always saying that love is the most powerful kind of magic of all, and if Snape has been loved, I think it just makes it more clear in my mind that he's on the good side.

I hope Harry gets Fawkes!
