When We're Left Alone

Habits and what we do,
we pick them up,
subconsciously acting
like the people we knew...

Its the good things,
in a pack of two,
from ages two and up,
developing ourselves...

Everything comes crashing,
when the teachers leave,
and we're left on our own...

Even when you're old
someone comes up to you,
and you do as you ain't told,
picking up what lands in front of you

Accidental or intentional,
inherited by blood or by law,
given away with heart or mind,
taken, then returned again...

Everything comes crashing,
when the loved ones leave,
and we're left on our own...

Bitter and torn,
when you look down on the floor.
And all you notice in the mirrors,
is that your face is worn...

Bottled up and locked away,
taught to keep it to yourself.
Can't undo the damage done,
by them or by you...

Everything comes crashing,
when the memories fade,
and we're left on our own...

When music makes you feel deaf,
and paintings leave you blind,
then there's nothing left to do,
but to go upstairs to your room...

When your therapist leaves,
and the pills run out,
you can glue photos to your walls,
and again feel tall...

Everything comes crashing,
when our families are no more,
and we're left on our own...

As glasses are sent flying,
and hearts still aching
from all the soaps endured,
and all of our homes breaking...

A lonely artist finds money,
and on the street he goes to work.
With holes in his pockets,
he doesn't know, and is poor again...

Everything comes crashing,
when the material world drags us down,
and we're left bare and unknown...

Everything comes crashing,
when the hunter shoots the bird,
establishing a mortal silence untold...

Everything comes crashing,
when this here is no more,
and we're left here and alone...
