MOVIE: Crash

Okay...the film Crash by Paul Haggis. It premiered at the Toronto Film Festival in September 2004, and was released internationally in 2005.

The film is about racial and social tensions that different races/minority groups in Los Angeles face.

The film depicts several characters living in Los Angeles during a 36-hour period and brings them together through car accidents, shootings, and carjackings. Most of the characters depicted in the film are racially prejudiced in some way and become involved in conflicts which force them to examine their own prejudices. Through these characters' interactions, the film seeks to depict and examine not only racial tension, but the distance between strangers in America.

Okay, so I have a hard time remembering names and their occupation, so I'll include them.

Anthony (Chris "Ludacris" Bridges) - African American inner-city car thief.
Peter Waters (Larenz Tate) - Anthony's friend and partner in crime.
Graham Waters (Don Cheadle) - African American detective for the LAPD.
Ria (Jennifer Esposito) - Latina detective. Graham's partner and girlfriend.
Officer John Ryan (Matt Dillon) - Bigoted white police officer.
Officer Tom Hansen (Ryan Phillippe) - Officer Ryan's partner in the beginning of the film.
Lieutenant Dixon (Keith David) - African American Lieutenant.
Cameron Thayer (Terrence Howard) - Black television director.
Christine Thayer (Thandie Newton) - Cameron's wife.
Daniel Ruiz (Michael Peña) - Mexican American locksmith.
Farhad (Shaun Toub) - Persian store owner.
Dorri (Bahar Soomekh) - Farhad's daughter. Doctor at the morgue.
Jake Flanagan (William Fichtner) - Rick's aide.

So...what I thought about the movie. I loved it. A few moments were very sad and I couldn't believe how some of those people were treated in the film.

The locksmith, Daniel Ruiz, was my absolute favorite character in the movie. He was so sweet and the way he was always trying to look out for his daughter and make her feel safe made me cry.

Overall, I think this movie is a very realistic representation of how different people/races are treated. It's most definitely in my top five favorite movies of all time.

I almost cried at least once tbh. It's something everyone should see.

We watched it in school last year (though it was the edited version...) and I loved it. And I agree with whoever said the locksmith was thier favoirte character. I loved him =)

I said that about the locksmith.

I cry so much everytime I see the part where his daughter jumped in front of him because of the "invisible cape".

I got the DVD for Christmas and I think I'll watch it again soon.

I finaaally got around to seeing this movie a few weeks ago, and wow, it is incredible.
The locksmith was my favourite, too. He was so caring.
I was literally groaning with all the foreshadowing of... um... what happened with the Persian store owner and the locksmith... spoilers.

I liked the store owner, too, though. I'm Persian too, so I can fully appreciate his full-on FOB accent.
